Is there going to be a new Park?

Ok, so I haven't been here for a while....sorry......but someone asked me today about the new Disney Park set to open in Orlando in 2011? This persone said they were watching something on the travel channel about Disney and the new park was mentioned.

Any news? I know that there have been rumors about the whole MGM-Pixar name change, but this is suppose to be a new park.

I hope everyone has been having a great summer. We have been sooooo busy.

Actually I saw that show too but cannot for the life of me remember what exactly they said about that. Something new will be happening by 2011.

There's got to be a website out there that has all the schmutz on the rumor

Gosh, I sure hope it is true. They need to add a new park.

I've been fantasizing about a Villan themed park that is loaded with rollercoasters and more "big kid" type rides; simulated, etc.

I got this today in my Passport email mailing....
It was in the Rumours section....

Walt Disney World's "Fifth Gate."

Will Walt Disney World ever have a fifth major theme park? Yes, the land still exists for it. This rumor was especially hot after Universal announced plans for its thrill-oriented park, Islands of Adventure (IOA). Disney just had to compete head-to-head with IOA, didn't it? By all appearances, Disney's response has been to add thrills to existing parks, rather than build a park only a thrill-seeker could love. Yet the possibility exists that Disney will some day add another park. Adding another park is a way to extend the average Walt Disney World vacation from five days to six, or more. That's more money at Disney hotels, restaurants, and turnstiles. However, the current regime at Disney Parks and Resorts has found other ways to extend vacation stays without spending huge sums on construction. Disney (and all park and hotel operators) like things crowded. It's far more efficient/profitable than having several parks/hotels operating at less than full capacity. That's especially true these days at Disney. They're finding more and more ways to utilize existing facilities at near-full capacity year-round, and are very slow to add additional capacity. How long did it take Disney management to commit to building new ships for the hugely profitable Disney Cruise Line? When did Disney last add a new "regular" (non-DVC) resort? When are they going to complete construction at Pop Century, the most recent regular resort to be built? The company moves very, very slowly to expand capacity, and the company is probably concerned that another horror like 9/11 could leave it holding a whole lot of excess capacity. A fifth major park may indeed happen eventually, but we'll probably see more money invested in new overseas parks before that happens. Rumor Status: Someday our prince will come.

Thanks...I did hear that it was suppose to be a "thrill park"

. But that rumor has been out for a while. I orginally thought that he had it confused with the Harry Potter park that Universal is doing. I would love to see a thrill park, but I have to agree I would rather see the other parks enlarged rather than a whole new monster of a park to have to conquer

. With all the times that I have been to the MK can you believe there are still things I have not done

Harry Potter Land will be at Universal Orlando.
As for a 5th WDW park, as much as I've beaten the drum for Disney's Coaster Kingdom for years now, the truth is, they still need to add in more attractions at AK and the Studios. Same goes for DCA, which is still barely more than a half day park. A new park would be an investment of $800 million at Disney's level of theming. That same money buys a lot of new attractions for the 4 existing parks.

I have to agree with SG on this one. As much as i'd love to to see a 5th park, i think the money would be better spent fixing up the ones lacking. A new park would only steer more people away from the ones lagging now.

As it is now, i have to force myself to go MGM. If it wasn't for 2 rides i wouldn't even bother. I know a lot of people love MGM, but in our last two trips we've gone to MGM and gone on ToT and RnRC and left right after. (and never went back the entire trip).

The park just does nothing for me.

Well, this time check out the lights, Motor, Action stunt show . . . it's REALLY good!! MY DD7 begs to go each time . . . but you have to get there a minimum of 15 minutes before show time . . . cuz once it starts they don't let you in!

I agree with your above statement too . . . this park has a couple cool shows for the little folk, two good rides for the "bigger kids"

but it does need a little revamping!

Other than the 2 thrill rides, it just feels too "kid like" and that's not a bad thing and i mean no disrespect to the kiddies. It's just that i need a little more than cutsie rides and shows.

The problem is i've grown up as a thrill ride kind of guy. Lucky for me, Sandy is the same way. We travel all around looking for the scary 'coasters and other cool rides. But as we've gotten older, we've learned to scale it back a bit.

MK, Epcot, AK could keep me busy all day. But there's just something about MGM that just doesn't click with me.
