Re: charge for fast passes

I had always heard via grapevines that they were going to only offer them as a perk for resort guests and an extra fee for all of the others. But that has always just been rumor

Re: charge for fast passes

I can't see how they would do this after offering the service for free for such a long period of time. I COULD understand the "resort guest" clause but otherwise, don't see how that could happen.

I think I've heard that rumor too. It would be a serious bummer if they put that in effect.

Re: charge for fast passes

Evidently they filed for a patent Aug 30th for an electronic paperless Fast Pass system, which guests will be able to download through their cell phones text message, for a price of course.
It said they would give preferential treatment to guests at WDW hotels and restaurants.

Re: charge for fast passes

This rumor had been around for a while. I don't think it will happen, but the idea of having FPs for resorts guests only would be a good idea. I like getting perks for staying on property.

Re: charge for fast passes

I hope this doesn't happen. There was a rumor floating around last year about this same thing, but it never came to fruition. (Don't you like it when I use big words?!?) Hopefully this won't either.

Re: charge for fast passes

I don't like the idea of having to text message using my phone for a fast pass. That's kind of wrong on multiple levels. The pass may or may not be free, but you're going to pay either in minutes or some other charges. And then what? You'd have to show your phone? I wouldn't mind a premium fast pass being offered, so long as you could use it multiple times on multiple rides, unlike Universal's paid xpress pass that only gives you one pass per major attraction in the park. But we've also talked about Disney offering a Universal type fast pass where you show your room key and have unlimited uses that way. That works for Universal Orlando or Disneyland, each with only 3 hotels and no more than 4,000 rooms total. WDW, with 19 hotels, most of which hold well over 1000 rooms each, would just be too many guests in such a system.

Re: charge for fast passes

I'm hoping this is just the same rumor floating around again. The Fastpass system works so well, why would they change it? So many who are not "in the know" don't use it anyway.

While I would understand resort guests only, that would leave out locals that visit the parks on a regular basis.

I also read on another forum that they are thinking about offering fast passes to guests at their resort. Not sure how that would work.
