A must do list for first timers..

My DD (4) and I are taking my best friend and her daughter (3) in February.

We are staying at All Star Music (since we got an awesome AP rate) and this will be my friend and her daughter's first time to WDW.

I don't think that she realizes how HUGE WDW is! And I've warned her that she'll never see everything in the amount of time we'll be there.

What do you feel is a MUST DO for first timers? (I do have to add that she took her daughter to Sesame Place over the summer and she was scared to death of the characters--We're not going to force them on her but we are hoping that if she sees my daughter with them that she'll warm up...but we'll see)

Re: A must do list for first timers..

My suggestion is that you shouldn't expect to do too much! Relax and enjoy the adventure. We found that the first time we went, we tried to cram too much into our stay and DS was on overload. Once we took our time, it was wonderful! And what we missed the first time, we made sure to take in the second time. Magic Kingdom will likely be the place you'll hang out the most. You'll have a magical time!

I agree that MK should be where you spend most of your time.

Beauty and the Beast at DS would be good for the kids.

Re: A must do list for first timers..

I wouldn't be too caught up in the characters. Let her see them first, then see how it goes... no expectations!

Otherwise, we learned that seldom do we and the kids find the same things interesting. Let them set the place and pace. Maybe they want to just watch Dumbo - not ride. Don't sweat it. My son (2.5 at the time) spent a full hour running around the play area in Toontown. My only enjoyment was knowing HE was enjoying it!

At 4... read the map together. Let them find something they want to see. Have fun watching them have fun!!!!

Our experience is that "must do's" frequently result in unhappy kids or unhappy parents. It is a Disney vacation - relax and enjoy it.

My DD is 4 and I think she could find her way around the parks without a map, we've taken her so many times! hahahahaha

I would make Fantasyland a priority at MK. Make sure to get there early!

I had to stop and think, "what is DS?" ha ha I will get used to that!

I agree with everyone else just enjoy everything at a nice pace and don't get too rushed to show them too much. If you are like me you feel stressed when you rush and you don't want to feel stressed at DW. Try to hit the classics and the magical things. Maybe you should try face characters with the little one first. Do Mickey's Philharmagic for sure... it is a new classic to me!

ok I would definately go to fantasy land

Winnie the pooh ride is a good one snow white might be too scary ( get a little flash light or something so the dark parts wont be as scary .. ) Peter pan is a good one . IASW .. tea cups ... the poohs playland area ...

I've heard the Finding Nemo show in AK is a must see, too.

The things they have done with Nemo at the Living Seas are really cool. I'm sure a three year old would love it. (I do!) Don't forget Pooh's Playful Spot, and of course the candy stores!
