WDW announces American Idol attraction

On Channel 7 Eyewitness News this morning, business editor Joya Dass just reported that WDW has announced plans to build an American Idol attraction! The new show will allow guests to audition before a live audience and there will be a competition.

They showed an sketch of the building, and it looks very Hollywood, so I would guess this might be at Hollywood Studios, but they never mentioned it!

Dust off those microphones, kids!!!

The article says that it will be in the old Superstars Television building... and this is one cool part of the article:

"Disney World visitors will be able to audition for the show at various locations, then perform and compete in front of studio audiences in a new American Idol sound stage that Disney will develop. The daily winners will be invited to try out for the TV show."

I heard that last night. I'm not a fan of Idol and I don't see it lasting too long, kind of like Millionare.

That's so funny!!! I feel like I ought to hate the show, but I am glued to the TV every time it airs. They pretty much NEVER end up with my choice as a winner (even with Carrie Underwood, I still like Daughtry better...)

And the early auditions ar elike a big trainwreck that you can't look away from!

Makes no sense at all!
Why would Disney build a new attraction to promote a current Fox show?
Tower of Terror, while Twilight Zone is a CBS show, was well into development before Disney bought ABC.
I give it 4 years if they do follow through with it.

It sounds awful to me. If they had done this 5 years ago I might have understood but I don't think AI is as popular as it was in the first couple of years.

I never wasted my time (for me it would be a waste) with Millionaire and I don't even watch Idol at home. I'll keep avoiding this building, same as I have since 1996.

I just don't get it.

It seems utterly pointless...I'd almost rather see that space stay empty.

Here's what I picture:

Day one of my trip: I go to Hollywood Studios and decide, "What the hay! I'll do the AI attraction! I sing in my shower all the time!"

I sing onstage and make a TOTAL fool of myself.

Day two of my trip: run into someone at MK who saw me flop on stage. "Hey, wasn't that you on the AI stage at Hollywood Studios? HYSTERICAL!"

Day three of my trip: run into someone else at Epcot who saw my awful performance. "Hey, are you the idiot who was the laughing stock of the AI show at Hollywood Studios? Boy, you have some nerve standing on that stage. You must really be able to laugh at yourself!"

Day four of my trip: run into yet someone else who has seen my disastrous performance...this time at our resort, at our pool bar. This guy is WASTED. He starts telling anyone who will LISTEN to him about my ridiculous attempt at American Idol fame.

Day five of my trip: vow never to step foot into Hollywood Studios again for the rest of my trip! Perhaps the rest of my life!
