EPCOT Speedway?

I think the name is Speedway in Epcot. Does anyone know if Rocket Rods in Disneyland was supposed to be like this ride?

I know they took out Rocket Rods  over a year ago and I was upset to see them go. They were always breaking down and when I asked a Cast Member about them she said the ride was closed because it was doing damage to the buildings that it was going through "Star Tours" and surrounding buildings.

I saw a movie on the net and the ride looks very fun.

Thanks,

Ruth

Test Track!

I think you referring to Test Track, the GM ride in EPCOT. The cars are based on the same chasis as Rocket Rods in DL, but the ride is completely different. It simulates what a car would go through on a test track. It goes through brake test, suspension and steering test, corrosion test and a speed test outside. One of the pictures below is the track layout, and the different areas the ride goes through, the other is a picture of the cars. In the speed test, you reach speeds in excess of 65 MPH. It is definitely one of the great rides.

I rode Rocket Rods once, I had to wait nearly two hours to do so, and it wasn't worth it. RR is basically accelerate, break, accelerate, brake. I understand that when Disney converted the old people mover track, the didn't want to spend a bunch of money, so they decided against changing the track and banking the corners. This put a horrible strain on the cars and hence, it was broken all the time. It is now permenantly closed, and won't be re-opened unless they find a sponsor and totally re-construct the ride. Test Track is much better though.

Yep, that is the ride I was talking about.

It looks like a long ride! Sounds like a lot of fun.

We never waited that long to ride RR no ride is worth that long of a wait. We only rode it 2 times and each time it was about 45 min. to an hour wait. I know I felt sorry for the people who stood in line for hours and then the darn thing would break down.

Its funny I didn't know that Disney relied so much on sponsor's unitl reading some of the messages here.

Thanks!
