Extra Magic Hours Test.

Saw this on All Ears. You will have to show your I.D. No bracelets will be issued. They are testing this for a few days.

that sounds crazy! They have to come up with something better than that, I would never allow my kids to hold there own passes, they would lose their heads if they weren't attatched

Re: Extra Magic Hours Test.

Wow, that doesn't seem to make any sense. And can you imagine how upset people will be when they're turned away at the rides? I don't understand how they will work that, unless Disney doesn't mind having people without resort keys stay, because they might spend money in the shops and restaurants?

Frankly, it sounds shtoopid and it seems to make life harder for the CMs.

Oh, I don't like this at all. That does not help to cut down on lines if you ask me. Not to mention, if they are not checking closely people can use expired resort keys. Ridiculous! I agree with Dopey. They stand to make money in food/merchandise.

Now we'll be seeing resort keys on E-bay. This does not seem to be a good idea.

Re: Extra Magic Hours Test.

This reads like a policy that is wide open for abuse especially if thorough checks are not made and if the park is busy thats almost impossible for CMs with huge lines.

that right there is exactly why they are doing it! $$$$ it's the bottom line. Not only do they save on the little wristbands that are color coded for different nights, but the MAIN reason guests go to EMH is to ride the rides . . . so if you are a resort guess you can do that by showing your ID . . . and if you aren't, then you can still spend your money!

If they are going to do it this way though, they need to check dates . . . and I personally think this takes away from the push to stay on property so you can have these EMH!! Don't ya agree??

I agree. The big draw for the extras is gone. I can stay of property for a whole lot less -----
but I would miss the resorts, because I don't just go for the parks. I mean it is the reason we go, but being able to go back to the resort and being lazy by the pool has a lot to do with it for me. errr.....that's starting a whole new discussion, sorry about that.

Back to the originally planned program

Re: Extra Magic Hours Test.

I don't know if this is the best way to do it... but something does need to be done if this is going to work right. At P&P last year, it was clear that a ton of people who did not have tickets just stayed after. There were too many people for it to be really under control with the bracelets. It worked at BTMRR and Space, and also at Speedway. But the other rides seemed to be pretty congested with a ton of non-ticket holders.

Re: Extra Magic Hours Test.

I am coming up with a key-swapping scheme (that I will not practice)...

Well, if you think about it, you could hand off your key to get a wrist band, too. But this will definitely take more work for CMs... it's easy to glance and see a bright orange/purple/yellow/etc. wristband, but having to squint and read hotel keys is going to slow the lines down.

Re: Extra Magic Hours Test.

The only reason I don't mind this is that a couple of times DW & I have gone to EMH, we have had a heck of a time trying to find the CM's that give out the wristbands and sometimes when we did find said person, the line to get it was a pain as well.

I can see however that it does take away some of the luster for staying on property. But what can we do, Disney is a business first and foremost so their first responsibility is to maximize profits.

At least most of the families with small children or babies will not be out that late for the EMH so that does alleviate some of the crowd size.

Re: Extra Magic Hours Test.

I don't like this AT ALL. So now people who stay off site get to stay and enjoy something I'm paying more for? That stinks. I like being able to show/flash a wrist band and get on a ride rather than getting my room key our every time we want to get in line. This sounds like a ton more more work for the poor CM at the start of each queue.

I don't know about that. We got ours as we entered the park, but can't you also get them while already at the park, at City Hall?

Re: Extra Magic Hours Test.

OK, all of you are pushing the panic button too soon.
Remember, 90% of the time, when they check your room key in order to give you a wrist band, they've been swiping your key through card readers.
THEY KNOW WHO YOU ARE!
At Universal, their 3 hotels' guests use their room keys as premium fast passes all day long with no limitations, but they scan your keys on the fast pass lines there. Again, they know who you are.
If Disney goes forward with this to it's logical end, all ride queues would have CMs with card readers, wirelessly connected into the park's central admission database. For guests, this would only add a couple seconds at each ride. The extra time being what it takes to show a wristband versus digging out your room key, which ideally you've got handy anyway because it's your ticket so it's getting fast passes, you're on the dining plan, and you're charging back to the room.
Makes a LOT of sense if you look at it that way.
