Pleasure Island

Can anyone tell me what to expect if my husband and I spend an evening or 2 at Pleasure Island (is there always crowds)? Where is the best place to go. Does it take long to get from the Contemporary to Pleasure Island? This is a place more suited for adults right... Is it actually an Island?

Thanks,

Lady Jena

There are buses you can take to Pleasure Island from the Contemporary. Pleasure Island is actually part of a strip that has Downtown Disney (used to be Disney Marketplace) at one end (Here you will find a collection of shops and restaurants (like Rainforest Cafe), that have about any type of Disney merchandise you could ask for. Pleasure Island is the next stretch and it has a collection of clubs and shows (There is a Comedy Club, an Adventurers Club, a mini-outdoor ampitheater, and several bars (Check out the 8-Track which focuses on playing songs for the 70s and 80s). There are also a few resturants and shops on or around this area. At the far end is Disney West End (I think that's the name). Here you'll find more shops, some themed places to eat like Wolfgang Puck', House of Blues, and a place that serves Cuban food (Bongos might be the name) that Gloria Estefan is involved with. Here you'll also find DisneyQuest (A cool five floor arcade with virtual-reality and standard arcade games) and Cirque De Soliel (A must if you have time). There is also a huge Virgin record store, and a group of first-run theaters. Downtown Disney and West End are family oriented, while Pleasure Island is for adults...not much to do there for children.

Thanks Shawnp0001!

What is Cirque De Soliel?

My kids, son 10 yrs and daughter 16 yrs want to go to Disney Quest. Do you pay a 1 time fee to get in and then you can play as many games you would like or is each game pay as you use? That could cost a lot in a 5 story arcade.

Thanks again,

Lady Jena

Cirque du Soleil is the Canadian circus that originated in Montreal. If you saw the Oscars this year, there was a Cirque du Soleil presentation. They have a large tent like building in Downtown Disney. Definitely a thing you must do! There are a couple of other threads here, just search by Soleil, you will find them.

There is a one time fee to enter the building, something around $25, and it is good all day. There are some things inside that aren't included, but most things are. If you buy a ultimate park hopper pass from Disney, you can use it to get into DisneyQuest.

Speaking of tickets I also am wondering what our tickets are going to be like. We are staying at the Contemporary and the package that we bought includes park hopper pass for all days we are there which will be 16. Does anyone know are these passes paper or are they more like the annual passes (hard plastic)?

I keep thinking that if they are paper they are going to get be well used since we plan on using fastpass.

I didn't see the Oscars but I will search here for more information. It sounds like a lot of fun.

I am glad to hear Disney Quest is 1 fee to get in!

Park hopper passes, as well as annual passes are both paper. They are very durable, so don't worry about that. It is possible that since you bought your passes along with your room that you will actually be assigned a room key/park pass/credit card for each person in your party. The kids, or anyone else that you don't want to for that matter, won't act as a credit card. You can specify when you check in. It is the size of a credit card, and made of plastic.

I have not had Park Hopper passes in years, but they used to be paper tickets. The Length of Stay passes (these include unlimited use of Pleasure Island, DisneyQuest, etc) are plastic in the shape of credit cards and are quite durable. Being there 16 days, you might want to consider changing this to an annual pass...I'm not sure what the cost breakdown is, but I would think an annual pass might be cheaper than the duration-type passes for 16 days. Mickey might know more about the cost breakdown.

We have annual passes for Disneyland and they are plastic.

We looked into that at least my husband did. We just bought either the Disney's Deluxe Magic Package or the Disney's Discovery Magic package. It includes a bunch of stuff you get tickets and can use them to do different things. Plus unlimited use of all the parks water parks included.

I just wish that Aug. would get here soon but its still so far away. I feel like a kid :D Disney always brings that out in me.

Man, you are not going to know what to do with yourself! Both of those plans include entrance to DisneyQuest, by the way, in addition to just about everything else on the property.

:D Can't Wait!

I wasn't sure about the Disney Quest. I already told my husband that we are going to not rush! We are going to be there so long even though we are planning on going to at least one other theme park Universal Adventure Island. Plus we talked about maybe going to Cape Canaveral (sp). We hope that while we are there that the space shuttle will take off. Not sure how close we can get to see it but I heard that they do tours.

We also want to go on tours of Disney World some of them my son is to young to go on. He is looking forward to the train tour though.

We love PI!

My husband and I always try to squeeze in a trip to Pleasure Island! I have never been during the week but on Saturday nights it gets crowded. Nothing intolerable, though.

You should get there at 7 and go to the Comedy Warehouse. It is an improv show and is usually pretty good. Then you can eat, drink, and dance the night away! Don't miss the Adventurer's Club - be sure to go downstairs!

We have taken our kids before. It is free for them to get in. At the time they were 3 & 5 and had a blast. The only club we could not go into with them was Maniquins (21 and up). If you can, leave your child at the hotel. You will have a nice grown-up evening.

PI used to celebrate New Year's Eve every night at midnight with fireworks and confetti. It was great fun but I haven't stayed until midnight in quite a while and don't know if they still do it. Worthwhile if they do.

I second what Cinderellafifi said .. The Comedy Warehouse and Adventures Club are must *do*'s We never took the girls .. some of the humor in the comedy warehouse can be a bit "adult" even though they try to keep it clean fun.
