Nascar

This is a bit of a strange post, but I love NASCAR.

I've wondered why Disney doesn't sponsor a car, or if they do, I've never seen it. It would seem, on the surface to me to be a natural fit!

Anyone know why not????

Yea, and they even have the Richard Petty Driving Experience that they offer. Huh? Never thought about it...

Re: Nascar

NASCAR is too restrictive for Disney. Disney wants right turns, inverted loops, barrel rolls, 13 story drops and laser shooters.

But NASCAR has "pit stops." Disney loves pit stops. They most of their money on them. You know, toys, clothes, food, gifts <g>.

Why? Their roller coasters don't even meet that spec!

But there are plenty of companies that have no NASCAR presence, not just Disney. I guess to Disney corporate, there isn't a compelling case to sponsor a NASCAR or IRL team.
Unless Steve Jobs wants to create an Apple/Pixar team.

Wow. Great thought. Can you imagine the advertising they'd get. Last week, Kyle Bush who runs the M&M team was a huge unadulterated ad for the new Indiana Jones movie. The Sprint Cup race was on Fox all Saturday nite. All the M&M's on the car and his outfit were decked out like Indy. Even the Speed TV announcers were wearing hats and sporting bull whips after Bush won the Sprint car race Saturday nite.

Re: Nascar

I think Disney has a presence at other major events ("I'm going to DisneyWorld!) and what is the rate of return? The "One Off" cars (Indiana Jones) probably do more to sell diecast cars and other swag than actually promoting the movie/event/product. Now IF Disney could control those profits, now that might be a different story.

IRL sponsorship would be cheap - many blank side pods - but if a tree fell in the forest..... And Disney owns the ABC, the IRL "broadcast partner" so they have easy access if they wanted.

If you want eyeballs on your product, then you need to go F1 for motorsports or soccer. I don't know that either translates to a postive return rate.

Not for the American market which is of course, Disney's primary market.
Disney owned the California (Anaheim)(Los Angeles) Angels from the mid 90s to 2003 and the Mighty Ducks until 2005 (no longer the Mighty Ducks, now the Anaheim Ducks). They have annual PGA events in WDW as well as Braves spring training. As mentioned, Disney is the parent of both ABC and ESPN, which broadcast auto racing. With all of that exposure, or potential exposure, I'd guess the prevailing attitude at The Walt Disney Company is there is little need to sponsor a NASCAR car or team as the bang for the buck isn't as great as other advertising.

You know, some people would argue what grown man would want to drive the "Mickey Mouse" car. However, they found a driver for Viagra <<Boy, that's got to be humiliating!>>

That was my point with the markets outside the US - NASCAR might not be the first choice. WDW does draw from all over the world and I don't know what marketing takes place outside the US.

Disney knows marketing - look at all of us here. We bought in - some literally. I think of all the things Disney knows, they know marketing.
