Why Disneyland?

I have never been to California, but for all that is available in WDW, is it worth taking a trip to Disneyland?

We haven't been there yet, but my sister & her DH have & really enjoyed it. We want to do a road trip out there so we can see that part of the country. I'd like to do DL just for the experience, especially since I know there are some things there that aren't available at WDW.

I think it is worth the trip!
We live in Chicago and have friends who live in LA. We went to visit them in March of 2002. So we decided to spend 3 days at DisneyLand.
Our daughter was 2 at the time and we found it much easier to navigate our way through Disneyland and DCA than WDW with a toddler.
My husband really liked Disneyland better than WDW. He felt like there were so many hidden things to look at. Also if you stay on Disney property you can pretty much walk everywhere.
It may sound corny but it was neat to experience Walt's vision at DisneyLand.
I admit there are many more things to do at WDW than at DL and I think the Downtown area of WDW is much better than DL. There are many more dinning options at WDW than at DL.

I think we did almost everything we wanted to do in the three days we were there.

Hope you find this helpful :)

Hi,

I really think you should see both side of Walt's dream. Disneyland is by far more quaint and laid back, while Disneyworld is big and fun. Two very different atmospheres. With Disneyland I felt that I could easily see everthing in a day maybe two. So a 3 or 4 day vacation is nice and relaxing. But with Disneyworld, you have to plan more and that is really fun too. Soo, I guess what I am trying to say, try them both. One other thing, I feel you really can't compare these to parks, they are both so beautiful, but yet quite different. Enjoy planning what ever you do.

What a coincidence...I was having the SAME EXACT conversation with 2 coworkers yesterday, while we were getting our manicures! One of my coworkers hasn't been to WDW in years, but from what she remembers, she loves it. However, she loves Disneyland soooo much more. I have never been there, but I do know that it is A LOT smaller than WDW. She said she likes the fact that DL is smaller and you could walk everywhere. Whereas when you go to WDW, everything is soo spread out. She did not deny that WDW has so much more to do,which is why it is so spread out, but she liked the fact that everything was basically within reach at DL.

I will not take a trip to California specifically to go to DL, but if I am out that way, I would love to go! I was actually in LA two times (for work) and only got the chance to experience Universal Studios. :(

I have been to both, however it;s been over a decade since I've been to DL. DL is much more intimate and much quainter atmosphere. A trip there is much more laid back and relaxing. A trip to WDW can get very hectic if you try to squeeze to much in. We are going to WDW in August. My Dw's nephew is getting married in AZ in February so I said "What the heck! Lets fly the few extra hundred miles and do DL also!" DL was my first big vacation as a kid and as such will always hold a special place in my heart!:)

Matt, it's going to be GREAT to get to DL again. You're right...if you're flying all the way to Arizona for a wedding, why not go all the way and make it into a Disney vacation? Great planning! You will have a wonderful time!!! Something else on the horizon to look forward to!!!:D

I've only been to Disneyland once, but it was a VERY disappointing experience. I've been to WDW many times and found it MUCH better.

disneyland

We went to DL in 1999 and they had pretty much finished remodeling Tomorrowland and it was SOOOOO MUCH COOLER than WDW Tomorrowland. Space Mountain ROCKS!!

Also they have an Indiana Jones & Temple of Doom ride that is really cool located in the Adventure section of the park. It is MUCH better than the Dinosaur ride at WDW AK.

They were building DCA at the time so we didn't get to experience it at all. I have often wanted to return to DL so we can experience the DCA and DTD but I fear that they've tried to take all the things that are so cool at WDW and stick them in a smaller space.

While I enjoyed going to DL and seeing, as someone else stated, Walt's original vision, my family and I prefer WDW since it is so much bigger. It's too bad they don't do the same remodel job on Tomorrowland at WDW to compare to DL.

I have only been to DL once .. it was with friends. It was special to me for personal reasons .. reasons that have to do with my childhood. But I think everyone that loves Disney .. not just WDW should go to DL because its a living history .. inspite of changes like WDW .. it began there .. if not for DL there would be no WDW.

We go to WDW each year, but went to California for our honeymoon- 11 years ago this week- and saw Disneyland for the first time. It did seem more compact. We are most likely going for the 2nd time, this time with our 9 and 7 year old boys, this New Years.

We have been to both and there is a certain romance about DL. Just the fact that Walt was so much a part of that place!!
Not to mention, CA!! How fun is that!!? Wish I was there right now!!:)

I would love to see DL and if the right airfare special came along... you better believe I am all over it! :D
I would love to experience Walt's original dream and compare the two parks. I'm curious if Mickey gets out there very often seeing as he lives in UT...

Hi everyone. My husband prefers Disneyland because of the California weather. It never rained and was in the 80's in the daytime, 50's in the evening. (we went in June). In comparison, it rained EVERY DAY FOR HOURS last June in Orlando. Also, my kids are major princess freaks but they are super-scared of the other costumed characters. It was way easier to get princess autographs in DL. Each princess held autograph sessions several times a day and they weren't part of a big character lineup, like at the MK. Saying all that, we're still going back to WDW because there are so many more parks!
