Re: Theme park with back pack????

I think with little ones, the back pack would be the easiest to manage. I personally don't care for them, but I don't have small children anymore. When I did, I used the smallish diaper bag with just basic essentials and stuck in on the coach.

dizzy has it right. Bring or rent and definitely just use it to hold your stuff and possibly hold your children.

Trust me has a father of 3 small kids--you want a stroller, preferably a double one or one for each of them. I think the Unofficial Guide says the average visitor walks 6 miles a day in the parks--that doesn't include the walk out to the bus and then back to your resort. At 9:00p.m. you DON'T want to be carrying a sleeping 4yo all the way back to your room (the resorts are HUGE).

For a whole lot less than renting a stroller for a week (one that you can't take out of the parks), you can buy two cheap-y umbrella strollers at Walmart and hang you back pack on it.

Worse case scenerio, you park the strollers at one of the parking areas and don't use it all day. But it's there when you need it!

And when the trip is over you can donate the strollers to a Rescue Mission or Crisis Pregnancy Center, where a low-income family can make use of them.

Re: Theme park with back pack????

If it's a good backpack that has a nice back support, that is good. A regular backpack is definitely better than using a bag with a strap that you hold on your shoulder or around your neck like a big camera bag.

Re: Theme park with back pack????

We have always taken a back pack. Even now that my kids are older, we still use one for water bottles, sun block, poncho's, etc. One thing is you do have to go through the security line and have it checked. The lines move pretty fast though.

Re: Theme park with back pack????

Welcome to Mousebuzz!

We only recently stopped carrying a backpack. Or, my husband stopped carrying it, and our baby is 13 yrs old!

I highly recommend bringing your own Pool Boy to carry yours around all day for you.

And I agree with the stroller part too. No matter what you r kids want day to day, in Disney, with the heat, the crowds and the huge amount of walking, they will definitely want a break.

This is what we used for our last trip. DH picked it up on one of his outings to Bass Pro Shops. It turned out to be the best purchase ever!

look up the hydration packs. It's got what they call a bladder that you fill with ice and water and has room for snack and such. We use it to go hiking and for WDW trips or anything in between. Our DD was 18 months when we went to WDW and she was able to use it too. She caught on real quick. It eliminates having to carry bottles of water for everyone. Really the best buy!

Great advice and so true- we have been that family carrying a sleeping child and it aint no fun at all!
Also I still use a backpack, its only small but it leaves 'hands free' and holds far more than a fanny pack for me.
Oh and I love the idea of donating the stroller to a charity thats so great.

Re: Theme park with back pack????

We used a fanny pack for the first trip, but really found that there was just too much stuff for the following trips. We used a back pack for our last 2 times, & it worked great. If it was an adult only day, then it would be camera-only, but with all of the "what-if's" that come with a child, a back pack is needed for us. We stuff everything from the camera, to ponchos, to polysporin , & even protein bars, etc.

Re: Theme park with back pack????

I love backpacks because they hold so much and most have different compartments and you can easily take them on the rides. When we used a stroller in the past I never liked to leave anything in it fearing someone would steal something so a backpack was a perfect option.

I usually carry a backpack in the parks. I want something that is hands-free.

Re: Theme park with back pack????

I have a very small backpack that my mom bought for me at Eddie Bauer. I've used it the last 2 years, and it is perfect. We also always bring a small stroller for our youngest. She will be almost 5 on our next trip and DH really thinks she should walk now because DD and DS walked at that age, but she is THE BABY (totally my fault). She will want to walk some of the time, but I know when she gets tired, she's going to need that stroller. DH will thank me when we get there, and he doesn't have to carry her! We also like to use the stroller to hang the backpack on. It makes for a nice break for whoever is carrying it at the time.

This is a great suggestion - I have one of these too, and I've never even considered taking it to Disney! Duh! There's enough room for small snacks and other necessities, and during the heat having cold water to drink would be amazing.

Re: Theme park with back pack????

I always carry a back pack with us. It is easy to carry, hands free, and comes off easily and fits between your feet for rides. We have a Jansport that we love, and have used it for 5 trips and will probably use it for our next trip. It is big enough to hold everything, and keep things organized. I would recommend it!
