backpacks and rides

Some one told me that there are cubbies near the boarding point of most rides for stashing backpacks, Pal Mickey etc. Is this true?

Can a not overloaded backpack go on most rides with me? Off my back of course, Ha!

Thanks!

I have taken my backpack with me on every ride. On rides like Big Thunder I just make sure everything is zipped up and place one loop around my angle and "hold" it wedged between my feet. Never had a problem. Make sure you have scotch guard on it or a plastic bag for Splash Mtn.! I've never noticed cubbies for them but wouldn't want to take a chance leaving it there.

No,garada, there are NO cubbys for people to put things into before going on rides, because frequently the exit to a ride is in a different location than the entrance of a ride.

I agree. i have never had a problem taking my backpack on any ride (including Space Mountain and RnR). Just make sure it is closed and I wrap the straps around my legs so it doesn't go flying.

I am not sure about the cubbies. Especially since you get let off in a different area then you get on in many of the rides.

Have fun!!!

Thanks for clearing that up as to what to do with the backpack. What do you all do with something like Pal Mickey and other souveniers?

I am sooo glad I found this board!

If you have a lot of other souveniers, you can have them sent back to your hotel (if on Disney property), or held for you at the front gate. At least, I think that's still right! I don't know about Pal Mickey, but that is a good question. Mind you, I did Disney carrying Ronni Racoon (on a lead, of course, so he wouldn't wander off and with a name tag...) when I was, uh, <cough> ten, and didn't have any problem. Didn't do any of the "Mountains" then though. I've managed fine on Splash Mountain and the others w/ a purse-sized back pack by doing, as was suggested above, putting my feet through the straps and holding on to it. Dinosauor has a pouch for it, but I'm not sure if a regular backpack would fit in there -- especailly not one that's PACKED. :)

garada3 when you stay at a disney world resort (but I dont think Swan and Dolphin count ) you can have what you buy sent to your resort and pick it up at the gift shop .. it usually arrives the next day. the only thing they will not ship to your resort are food items ( ie: chocolate bought in Italy ) so you dont need to tote all your lovely souveniers around and worry about them. but you can not do this the day before checking out. normally the CM will ask you if you are checking out tomorrow .. the day before you check out you can still have your items sent to the front gate for pick up. this is something you can do even if your not staying at a WDW resort.
ok as someone that had rode with a diaper bag , backpack and video equipment .. you should have no problems with a backpack on any of the rides ( I sure dont miss diaper bags *grin*)

This year I'm trying something new. I ordered online and received yesterday a "North Face" waist pack (see it here) I tried the backpack thing last year and it seemed to be a bit of a hassle digging through the bag every time I needed the the video or still camera. I like this idea because the stuff will be right in front of me plus it has the water bottle holders for my kids. Plus I can keep this thing around my waist during rides and not have to worry about storing it.:)

Now that is a waist pack!! I have never seen one that big before. You could really fit a lot in there, and like you said, there is a place for water bottles. It looks nice.

This is it. Got it on sale @ REI.com almost half price. It actually looks much bigger than it is. They expand it all the way for the pictures.

I like that pack too! The backpack was quite a hassle, but I can't imagine being without it. I think the next time we go we'll change to that Waist Pack. Let us know what you think about it after you use it.

About storing the backpack and souvenirs...there are lockers you can rent (I think they're still there), and you can store things there if you want. They're at the front of the park. I wish I could remember where to tell you to go, I think Guest Relations. Someone here might know. I did take my backpack with me on all rides. It wasn't a problem at all. Just got bulky (made me tired) carrying at times.

Are there different sizes of lockers? How big is the average one and are they the ones that you can see into?

Upon entry to the park, i believe that your bags might be searched briefly for safety purposes, but iis nothing major. I usually try to wear a fanny pack so taht my shoulder doesnt hurt and it can be carried onto rides with no problems.

We always use a backpack (that I hang on the stroller, unless I'm on a ride) and I keep EVERYTHING electronic in a large ziplock. I kept an extra one in there for our pal Mickey in case it looks like rain. We always buy the cheap ponchos ($.89 at Walmart) that are the size of a credit card folded, and snacks, change of clothes for the kids, etc. Next trip we are going to do the fanny pack for me and hubby. I like that one that holds 2 drinks.

I don't have a problem riding any ride with a back pack, other than the Rockin Roller Coaster. That one may be a problem.
