Simulation Rides

Unfortunately I have come to realize that I just can't ride these rides anymore. Rides like Star Tours, Mission Space and Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast all seem to make me really nauseous and dizzy almost instantly. Mission Space REALLY got to me this past trip; I didn't feel better until that evening. I swear I looked like this afterwards. Fortunately Soarin was ok, I love that ride.

Anyone else have this problem? Have any of you been able to overcome it?

Re: Simulation Rides

Hey DayDreamer! We missed you!

I get that feeling too, but depending on the ride, I may not get it right away. I skipped Back to the Future totally the last trip. Jimmy Neotron I can do, but after a few days of being simulated I usually have to sit out.

Re: Simulation Rides

I'm with you on the Star Tours!! I was so dizzy and nauseous after riding it 2 years ago. I did not even attempt Mission Space!! The tea cups are a definite NO for me. As a teen I could ride whatever I want, no longer the case!!

Re: Simulation Rides

DW and I ride the teacups without spinning. It's fun to watch all the other adults turning green. I try not to eat before Star Tours and do OK. Missing Space got me feeling woozy the first time, but the second time I refused to push the buttons and just sat and stared (mostly) at the same point on the control board. No problems whatsoever on that mission (except that I didn't fire our rockets on time and we almost crashed on Mars) LOL

Re: Simulation Rides

The last time I was @ DS, I rode Star Tours. My kids and hubby had been on it already and they LOVED it, so I just had to ride it. When that ride ended I made a beeline for the restrooms. I can still hear my 6 yr old, "mama, are you sick?"

I have no advice on how to solve the problem either. I get motion sickness very bad and just no what to and not to do. It's really a shame, the first couple of seconds of Soarin I need to close my eyes or else it will start to make me ill.

I was happy to see Back to the Future go away, that thing was a death trap. It wasn't clearly stated about motion sickness and I had to sit down for over an hour to recoop from the experience.

Re: Simulation Rides

It seems that the older I get, the sicker I feel after those rides. Especially the simulator rides- and they seem so darn long!! I can't even read a magazine in the car anymore. I even felt very sick for almost the entire day the last time I was on Expedition Everest. And that is just from going backwards. I rode it many times before and felt fine. I am too much of a chicken to ride the harder side of Mission Space. The softer side is just fine for me!

Re: Simulation Rides

Soarin', no problem.
Star Tours, I'll close my eyes at times.
Mission Space, I won't even try!!

The one ride that I rode only once and is no longer at EPCOT is Body Wars, that one really made me feel sick.

Re: Simulation Rides

I have no advice but I definitely sympathize! I find myself more affected than I used to be...

...just a couple years ago, I rode the intense version of Mission:Space twice in a row and was happy as a clam. This year, I rode the green side once and that was enough for me!

Re: Simulation Rides

I do fine on most rides, there are two things I refuse to do- Mission Space orange and the Teacups. I have never had Soarin' or Star Tours bother me.
DayDreamer-have you tried the Transderm Scope patches? I am not sure if they are over the counter or prescription. It is a little patch you wear behind your ear. A friend of mine, who is terribly prone to motion sickness, wears them whenever she travels on a plane or boat. They work well for her, it might be worth trying. Good luck.

Re: Simulation Rides

You're getting old! Unfortunately, that is typical for many folks. As you get older, your equilibrium isn't as stout as it used to be.

In couple years, DayDreamer, you'll only be able to "ride" the Hall of Presidents.
