in January. We are trying to decide when we will try to go since we cancelled our August trip. My kids have MLKJ day off in January and the following 3 days after that are teacher workdays. They would only miss Friday of that week, so we are thinking that would be a good week as far as everyone's schedule, but DH doesn't want to go when it might be chilly. Family members I have asked say it'll be hit or miss as far as high temperatures. We prefer the HOT, HOT, HOT weather, but I'll take any weather as long as I'm in WDW! Help me reassure DH that the weather won't be so chilly that we should wait longer than January to go.

Well chilly to you is downright FREEZING to us Floridians!

When we go in January, it can be hit or miss . . . I'd say more HIT. The sun is still HOT, but the humidity is much lower. We would wear crop pants, tshirts during the day, kids might where light leggings . . . BUT a jean jacket or hoodie for night is a must!

Last Jan it was VERY COLD . . . low 40s in the early am, but then it would warm to a nice 70+ in the afternoon. WDW pools are heated too!

In AUGUST, you can guaranty that it will be HOT! HOT! HOT!

We went last days of January, beginning of February. Had to buy myself a $40.00 zippered Mickey hoodie. Wore it the entire time and was still cold. My DH and Mom, on the other hand LOVED the weather. So, I guess it depends on what you are comfortable with. It was nice and sunny, just a little chilly for my likings.

we have been the 1st week in Jan. and we wore layers and made out fine. it's cool to chilly some mornings, but it warms up nicely mid-day...not hot, but pretty warm. then it gets cool to chilly again at night.

FYI : MLK day /weekend is a pretty busy one.

With Florida there is no way of predicting the winter weather. Last winter we hardly got any really cold weather at all - only a few really, really cold days. It could really go either way. I know, clear as mud.

Yes, we went in December of 2000. The day we left home the weather channel said to expect temps in the 50's...and I packed accordingly. We drove (2 day drive) and by the time we got there a heat wave came through and it was in the 90's that whole week. The day we left to come back home, by the time we reached Pensecola we ate dinner at Applebees and the TV was reporting snow flurries in Ocala and Orlando....

You just never know with Orlando weather. Even in the summer, we bring a jacket and a pair of jeans ans we are Floridians!! January is the perfect time to go. The weather is beautiful. Chilly in the morning and at night and usually low to mid 70's during the day- Not too cold, not too hot!!

The crowds are usually lighter after you get past the holiday weekend as well.

Can I jump in with a related question? How often do you find it warm enough for swimming? My DS and new DW are looking at Jan .

I guess swimming in Jan is sort of like when something is down for rehab. You don't expect to be able to do it, but you are pleased when you have a chance to do it.

It will probably warm up enough around 11 or so and then start to cool down around sundown. They do do the water refurbs in the cooler months. Check out the refurb list on Allears and you should be able to see if anything is closing. Keep in mind the bigger pool (if not all) are heated.

Thanks everyone! All good information. I have tried looking at weather sites that would give averages like you posted, mickeysgirlz, but that isn't good enough for DH! His biggest concern, is if we ride Kali River Rapids and get soaked, as we usually do, will we all freeze? He and our girls love that ride, so they think it's gotta be warm enough to ride it and not be shivering until they can change clothes. Silly, huh?

We went January 2007, had a 2 warm days to swim, and six days of cold. We acutally had to buy fleece jackets and winter hats to keep warm. Even though it was so cold it was one of our better trips, the kids didn't need to stop as much and rest because they were exhausted from the heat and the crowd levels were very low. If you do go in January just pack a little bit of everything!

All these reports of weather cold enough to need to wear coats and hats make me think we might just wait until next summer to go. I truly need HOT weather, but I don't WANT to wait that long. That would make it 22 months between trips. If we go in January it be 15 months since our last trip.

You're not going to let a little thing like chilly weather stop you from going to Disney are you??!! Waiting for the summer will be waaaaay to long!! I say bite the bullet, pack a pullover fleece and go!

My thoughts on this subject:
It is better to put on enough clothes to be comfortable than not being able to take off enough. I hate to be hot. I love cold weather. I am going in January - remind me of packing my Alpaca jacket
