Tinker Bell may get a new home

Not sure how they are going to pull this off . . . shouldn't Fairies be Fairie size?

Scott Powers | Jason Garcia and Sara K. Clarke, Sentinel Staff Writers | July 28, 2008 | orlandosentinel.com

Walt Disney World is planning to add actresses playing Tinker Bell and her friends from an upcoming series of "Disney Fairies" movies -- and might be creating a new attraction based on them.

Disney held auditions last week for actresses to play the Disney Fairies characters in the parks, including Tinker Bell, Silvermist, Rosetta, Iridessa and Fawn.

In a prepared statement, a Disney spokeswoman explained: "Disney Imagineers are currently creating a special new home for Tink and her friends which promises to immerse guests in the world of Pixie Dust at Walt Disney World."

Spokeswoman Andrea Finger would not elaborate about whether this meant the fairy characters will have their own attraction, nor did she specify which park they might appear in.

Except for Tinker Bell, the characters are based on a new "Disney Fairies" entertainment franchise that the Walt Disney Co. has been developing in recent years through children's books, Internet Web pages, games, toys and a series of straight-to-DVD movies that will begin emerging this fall.

Re: Tinker Bell may get a new home

hmmmm, hiring actresses? They should be small like but more dainty then the munchkins. How are they going to pull this off, I wonder.

Tiny little anamatronics would be cool, don'tcha think?

OR, they could make everything big like when you go onto TSM, so you feel like you are small? Wouldn't help with the adult to child ratio though.

BUT, it would be cool if when you had your picture taken, it had a cool effect on it that caused the fairy to look smaller. You know like they "put" Tinkerbell in some of the kids hands.

Very intriguing prospect, I must say. Could be magical, could be silly. I'd like to hear more about it.

Very interesting. We love Tink and her fairy friends around here. I can't wait to see what they come up with.

Re: Tinker Bell may get a new home

If I ever met Tinkerbell I would probably lose my breath and pass out. Seriously, I think my enthusiasm would probably be overtly embarrassing. My first thought would be that imagineers would create an environment HUGE in scale that would make guests and the fairies appear really small.

Re: Tinker Bell may get a new home

Have you ever seen Remember at Disneyland?
Have seen how big Tinkerbell is?! Whether a man or woman, this CM is clearly a 6 foot tall person! No small, frail person could fly like that. We're not talking about a simple slide down a wire from the castle tower to the Noodle Terrace roof. We're talking about a big body that can be easily seen flying over the treetops of Disneyland's hub starting from the top of the Matterhorn.
All Tinkerbells are not created equally.

Oh my gosh, I know I have prescribed glasses for night vision problems but I could have SWORN for the life of me that the "Remember" Tinkerbell in Disneyland was a doll of some sort and not a human. She travels like around the castle!! I know the WDW version is a human. Wow, I feel like a complete jerk if it really is a human person in DL, I have to go watch the video. That's my favorite fireworks show ever.

Re: Tinker Bell may get a new home

Wish, thanks to the wonders of video tape, I was just able to take a look at Tink. No, I'd bet money that that is a live person. The arms and legs move differently and also the body tilts and seems to shift weight to alter the way she is flying. If that is a non-human, it's an animatronic or some sort of robot, which of course would weigh more, not less than a full grown adult man.
I'm watching it now as I'm writing and I see her waving her magic wand in a very fluid, human manner.
"Remember" my camera is able to zoom in closer than a Mark One eyeball is able to.
Also, the memory is the first thing to go when you, ah, er, ah....... what was I saying?

She is a live person I'd love to be Tink's helper!

Oh my gosh, I am totally embarrassed with myself. Next time I need to pack my glasses in my purse so I can take them into the parks at night.
