Great Movie Ride Improvements

Has anyone been on the GMR since it has been refurbished? I heard there were some changes in some of the scripts and scenery. Let us know if you noticed the changes.

mm when was it refurbished? this is one of my favorites at the Studios .. it was our very first ride on our very first trip to the Studios, which is why I guess we love it. but I remember also on that first ride we were in line for over an hour.

It was closed on our May 2002 trip but open on our May 2001 trip. We were just discussing the GMR about a month ago and had come to the conclusion that it must have been closed for good. This is definitely one of my favorite rides of all time. It brings back tons of memories. This is great news about the changes..hopefully not TOO much !

I read about the refurbishment on Deb's WDWIG weekly newsletter. Since it is one of my favorites to I am anxious to hear from someone who has been on it since it reopend. It said it opened June 8 and had update effects in the Alien scene and new animatronics in others. Also said COP is opening June 22.

The great movie ride just opened this last sunday and we went on it. Didn't notice any great changes. Still seemed like the same ole stuff to me. Guess you would have to go on it a lot to notice any changes. Still had the old movie clips when you are waiting in line. Still ride in the same seats. Still have Aliens, Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, James Cagney, John Wayne, etc. So I don't know what the difference was if any.

I guess the changes were maybe all cosmetic, sprucing things up that were looking a little worn.

I have seen the Great Movie Ride 4 times over the years and each time it was the gangster script. I heard they also have a cowboy/ western script. Is this new or has it always been there and I just missed it each time. :D :D

I laughed as I read this to my DH ..because for years all we ever saw was the cowboy script so when we ended up with the gangster we thought it was new .. a CM told us it depends on which car your in .. front car or rear. well we felt pretty dumb but then my friend Dixie when I mentioned it to her said they had never seen the cowboy script ..they always got the gangster!!
so the answer to your question is ..yes there are two scripts :) and would you believe we have only seen the gangster script that one time every since its been the cowboys!!

What was Refurbished

I recieved this information from a Cast Member. :)

During the refurbishment, Cast Members:

-Replaced all on-board audio components on the ride vehicles.

-Replaced show speakers throughout facility (total of 88 show speakers).

-Updated effects in the Alien, western and gangster show scenes, including updated and new smoke effects, a new exterior to the bank in the western scene and new wireless microphones for the gangster and bandit Cast Members.

-Replaced foliage and props in selected scenes.

-Reprogrammed and refurbished animatronics figures, including all figures in the Tarzan show scene, and the wicked witch and all munchkins in The Wizard of Oz scene.

-Repainted entire exterior of building façade and performed general repainting throughout the show scenes.

-Added new neon signage at the front of the attraction and

-Rewrote Cast Members' script.

Hope everyone is happy with the "New" GMR.

Janette

I hope they fixed that broken airplane propeller that never would spin in the Casablanca scene! It would make me laugh everytime I saw it, the plane would "start" and only one propeller would spin!

I love this ride and cannot wait to see the improvements in March!!! I felt like my trip to MGM wasn't complete without it on our last trip.

Been there done that I can't remember how many times and didn't realize until I read Tink's post that sometimes it is the ganster scene and sometimes the western that you see acted out. I realize something new about the magic every day!;)

which one did you always get LRTJS?
I think it must be the front car that gets the cowboy ..because it seems that we always end up in the front car.

When we were there in Aug. I know we were in the back car and had the gangster because DGD was a little scared. I think we had the western when we went New Year's Day and I am pretty sure we were in the front car!
