Using a cane at WDW (WARNING, WARNING! Stupid Question Alert!)
We're getting ready to do our trip to WDW soon, and as much as it pains me (
no pun intended), I know I'll have to take a cane as my back & hip are not well. I've done WDW with a wheelchair already (although I was the pusher, not the pushee) so later in the week when I need to use one, I know what to do. I have a fold-up cane, and was thinking about getting a cane that has a seat (they do exisit!) but I can't figure out what to do with the cane while I go on rides with my family! You can park a wheelchair, but if I use a seat/cane, I can't fold it up to take it with me - and it seems to be tough to park it. Anyone with advice? Thanks!

Re: Using a cane at WDW (WARNING, WARNING! Stupid Question Alert!)
My mom was able to take her cane on the rides. We didn't do SM or ToT or RnRC, though. But the others she managed fine.

Re: Using a cane at WDW (WARNING, WARNING! Stupid Question Alert!)
I would think only RnRc and EE would be the only rides it might be tricky to take a cane on. The other rides will probably be OK because there is usually a good bit of space in the seats.

I am sure the CM at the parks have dealt with canes many times before and will let you know the best way to go about doing the rides. Maybe you should stop by GS on your way in and ask about the best way to go about it.

My mother and I went last Christmas, She took a Cane, Most rides you put it on the floor of the car, on more jarring rides the attendant would take care of it and it was waiting at the end of the ride

Not a stupid question at all! Like everyone else is saying, you should be able to take it with you on most rides.
No shame in canes! My Mimi used one all the time (except at Disney, cause she had one prosthetic leg and she would have been run over by crowds otherwise.) My mom has even considered getting one with a seat, and I'm down with that. I'd rather have her be comfy and have fun than be in pain.

Re: Using a cane at WDW (WARNING, WARNING! Stupid Question Alert!)
..."put it on the floor" I read that and the intelligent part of my brain said "DUH! Of course!" I do miss that part of my brain and wish it would show up more often...
Screever - this cane that I'm planning to take does have a seat on it because standing in one place can hurt my back...I'm interested in seeing how it works out. Like I said, I've done this with my DD in a wheelchair after surgery, and WDW is unbelievably accessable. In fact one or two of the CM's looked like they had been given some rehab training. Thanks for the answers!

Let me know how it works for you, cooncat; the standing is what bothers my mom as well!

Re: Using a cane at WDW (WARNING, WARNING! Stupid Question Alert!)
I take mine and try to use it instead of a wheelchair at times, with no problems on rides etc. so far! And in fact am using it tonight -- and the seat-folding kind is UNBELIEVABLY FANTASTIC, especially in long lines!!

I've been wondering...do they sacrifice butt space on the foldable seats for the conveniance of having it fold up? I mean, some of us have big old ghetto booties! Sorry, but there was no other way to ask. ![]()

I've ordered the Travelon seat cane. What kind do you have? And is it fairly managable both for sitting on and walking? I was wondering how awkward it was with the 3 legs. (Glad you asked about the seat - I was wondering too!) I've been rehabbing, hoping to keep walking through the vacation rather than using a wheelchair.

Re: Using a cane at WDW (WARNING, WARNING! Stupid Question Alert!)
I'm thinking you could take it with you. But, on a few of the rides, perhaps you could leave it with the CM. CM's have pretty much dealt with everything.

Re: Using a cane at WDW (WARNING, WARNING! Stupid Question Alert!)
I am not sure if I am too late to the conversation to help but when my Great Uncle was alive he'd accompany us on trips to WDW often. He used a cane b/c he had some small ulcer on his foot but he was still full of pep and loved 'zippy' attractions, as he called them. I remember him often taking his wooden cane on rides with us but on the more 'zippy' attractions I CLEARLY remember him leaving his cane at either the stroller parking area or with a CM at the exit.
