One thing I will say. Being that she was hurt on Disney property I am sure that someone from their Risk Management department will want a signature on a waiver stating that Disney will no longer be held responsible for her injuries. Having gone through something like this in a grocery store my piece of advice would be not to sign anything until she has been given an all clear from her doctor is she is pain free for a certain period of time (I waited a week since my injury was minor).

I hope the rest of her trip went well and is willing to give it another try at a later time.

First of all, let me say that I'm so sorry to hear that she was injured and that her trip was spoiled! Thank goodness it wasn't worse though...

I COMPLETELY agree with the above quote! One of my cousins was hurt at a casino in New Orleans, and they tried to get her to sign a waiver. She walked into a plate glass door that was not clearly marked, and it shattered, cutting her face. Ironically, they were on their way to WDW, and stopped off there to get something to eat. (They were driving from Texas to Florida). The hotel people admitted to her that this SAME ACCIDENT happened to two other people prior to her, and STILL the glass was not marked! She refused to sign a waiver, got a lawyer, and is now in the process of getting ready to take them to court.

I'm not saying that this situation warrants a court case (at this time anyway, unless injuries, etc. get worse), but it's good to NEVER sign a waiver, because Lord knows what might happen after they've washed their hands of you! And...it would have been good of them to give your friend day passes. Should she have additional problems and have to take them to court, it may have been cheaper in the long run for the company to comp. her a day or two, compared to what they MIGHT have to pay for unjuries later on. Just my two cents.

They sort of had a fast pass for every ride, because if she arrives at a ride in a wheelchair, she is automatically let in the back door to access the ride and her family is admitted along side her
Again, you hit the nail on the head and said it better than I ever could. It was an unfortunate accident that WDW took complete care of. Why must everyone get as much out of a situation as they possibly can? I don't get it. It was really a shame that this happened. Accidents are not planned for. Here a CM tried to do the right thing and something bad happened because of it. With people always looking for an angle, I will bet that CM would be less likely to do it again...perhaps they should have been left in the log in the rain so this accident didn't occur?

I guess that's what I wanted to say and couldn't. Thanks Dana. I get so tired of that sort of behavior.

This thread is going to get out of control.

You friend is the reason why insurance cost what it does. Capitalizing off accidents should be a crime in itself. It what makes everything for us common Joe's more expsenive. She is also the reason that people tend not to help each other...you might be sued for giving the wrong help. Bad Karma in my opinion, but that's just MHO.

Re: my friend was hurt on Splash!!!!

There's always a chance you could get hurt on any of the attractions though for the most part they are very safe. Disney did a good job. Clothes are spendy. Ambulances and ER's are spendy. An extra day in the park would have been nice! What's MNSSHP??

Mickey's not so scary Halloween party. It's a private party that you have to buy a ticket for...tickets are about $40 a person..give or take.

Just thought it would be nice for the 2 kids to be dressed up.
But totally not necessary for Disney to foot the bill

One thing I don't get, maybe I am just insurance ignorant, but WHAT would it matter if Disney offered to pay the ambulance & hospital visit? Doesn't insurance take care of that? Unless I was uninsured & had to foot the bill myself I don't see who Disney would be reimbursing... the insurance company?

I would think that if you have insurance that Disney would be covering anything that you do have to pay out of pocket, like a co-pay or even having to pay toward a deductible.

Actually, that CM was instructed by supervisors to remove the guests from the ride. This wasn't a random act of kindness. This was a planned evacuation. The only problem was timing. If this were a minute on either side, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. The boat just happened to move right as the CM was taking the riders out of the boat. I'm not defending anyone and I'm not chastising anyone. This was a pure accident, and all things considered, fairly minor. Disney should have picked up the cost of the ECV for the rest of their stay (although we don't know that they didn't). They probably should have given the family one day hoppers, but in light of the Halloween party tickets, they were on the right track.
We had to be evacuated from Big Thunder one night and all riders were given a fast pass for any ride in the MK. The only annoying thing from that incident was when we were under the mountain, the CM warned us to not take any pictures. Like we wanted to be walking off the ride from the second lift hill in the first place.
We had a ride related injury at Busch Gardens last June during the preview of the new floorless cars on SheikRa. There was a slight step up into the row of seats and it wasn't properly marked yet (no safety tape) and DW tripped and fell flat on her face. This was handled quickly and professionally. Back at First Aid, DW was given a waiver to sign. As she really wasn't hurt badly (it turned out that my leg cramp which I developed from pushing her wheelchair around BG was much worse than any pain she had) and nothing lingered, we opted to not go to the ER, signed the paper, and went on a bunch more rides. Quicker because we were now "handicapped".

Actually, even if you have insurance, this was 100% Disney's fault and 100% Disney's responsibility to cover all medical expenses related to the injury. The guest/victim should not have been responsible for a single penny towards medical costs.

With an ECV, let them get their own bags of candy, just like the rest of us. It's not like they stop any guest from going around and around in any candy lines and the candy tastes better when you get it yourself.

Eesh. I just meant like "oh, here's your MNSSHP tickets, and oh look... some candy!" Maybe nice wasn't the right word. Thoughtful. Candy would've been an inexpensive and thoughtful gesture. But nevermind that idea. It happened. What's done is done.
