This is the last year for Soup Weekend at DHS

Just posted to Deb's website...this will be the last year year for the Super Soap Weekend at Disney Hollywood Studios.

Instead there will be some type of tour through out the year and a Soap cruise on a Carnival cruise ship. Interesting in light of the recent entertainment cutbacks. My guess is that the WDW resort and the ABC television group shared the costs for the weekend (even if it was funny money between two different Disney divisions), sounds like one or both parties didn't want the costs on their books, even though the event was very popular.

Reading the Orlando Sentinel, it appears to be a decision by the ABC Television Group and not WDW (or even a shared decision). I thought it was odd, since it seems to be very, very popular.

Anyway, all of you soapsters, live it up this years. ;)

LOL... "Soup Weekend" -- I though this was a cooking thread.

I was wondering about this soap weekend, though, because I heard a while back that soaps aren't bringing in enough profit anymore and might be getting phased out altogether.

For the record, I started watching Days in the 70s, when Doug was married to Julie and Mickey was married to Maggie, and Hope was a tiny girl... Except for that horrible era where Marlena was possessed by the devil -- oh please! -- the show is not much different now, believe it or not! LOL)

Oh my I still remember those days. I used to love Days in the 70's I was really young though. I don't watch it anymore. Hope was going to be my daughters name when I was young.

I have to say that I was at the Studios last year during Super Soap Weekend and some of the topics during an interview taking place on stage were a little much for kids to hear. I had my nephew with me and I thought it was a bit inappropriate.

I LOVE All My Children and I have watched it since I was in grammer school. I have not missed a single episode in 8 years!

You know it has become a huge event and the park was just too crowded, they really can't control the crowds, now they can sell a certain number of tickets and keep it under control. Don't be surprised if it comes back to WDW tho.

I have been to each one sine 99, I am not a huge soap person, but I'd take photos of the stars and seel them on ebay, it was a good money maker, I am a sports photographer part time, so I had the right equipment to get nice shots.

In my family's case this isn't a bad thing, we are now going to plan a vacation around Xmas and New Year's for next year, I have always wanted to be there during that time.

Sorry for the typo in the thread heading. I didn't even catch when I posted my followup thoughts.

If they ever remove the soups from the restaurants at WDW I will be real upset, as I like soups. :)
