Pal Mickey being discontinued.

I found out today that Disney is discounting Pal Mickeys. Once current inventory is sold, there will no longer be Pal Mickeys on the market. If you already a own a Pal Mickey, he will continue to work inside the parks.

Also today I had one the weirdest questions I've gotten in City Hall. A guest came up to me today, he had just purchased 2 Pal Mickeys. He asked if this was "where you can get the Pal Mickeys programed to track your child?"

I wasn't sure what he was asking me. I asked him some more questions and he told me that he was told that "Pal Mickey has a device inside that will reconnect you to your child if you and your child get separated" Me:

I told him that Pal Mickey didn't have that type of capabilities, and then he got upset and said "I was told that!!"

I tried to explain what Pal Mickey actually does and then he walked off. About that time Wish walked up to me. I must have had a real confused look on my face.
Why would someone think that Pal Mickey could relocate a child if they were separated from their parent?

He maybe thuaght that you could connect the two Mickeys together and if one got seperated the parents Mickey would tell the parent where the child is.

Just a wild guess ???

Sorry to hear that they will be discontinuing Pal Mickey, but happy to hear that the one we have will still work. DD enjoyed having hers on this trip.

That is a pretty weird question btw, but people are given the wron information about WDW all the time.

I'm not sure, but somewhere along the way, I believe I heard that there is a GPS chip in every Pal Mickey. This would be part of the electronics package that tells Mickey where he is so that he can tell you about the attraction you're standing in front of. If the chip is there, it's possible that you could track a Pal Mickey in the same way you would track a cell phone. Maybe.

I kind of always thought that the Pal Mickey would bug me to distraction. I saw one dad at MK trying to hide the doll under a pile of coats one time, it looked like it was because they couldn't turn the thing off and he kept talking.

Either I remember you saying that before or someone else has tried to do that! That reason alone has stopped me from buying one, because I think he would annoy me, too. I'm pretty sure Miss Caisley would love him for that very reason, though!

I always kinda wanted to 'rent' one for a day, just to see how it went, but I figured I knew pretty much everything he had to tell me about the parks anyway.

Unless he could help me find my way out of DHS! That park is like a stinkin MAZE!

Think how cool Pal Mickey would have been, if he could have done a few different things:

I just read somewhere that they have a Santa outfit for Pal Mickey, I was sooo looking forward to buying this one when we are there in Nov/Dec. I am glad that he will still work, but once I get the outfit (hopefully). I will be ok if they discontinue them. They do get annoying, but they are pretty fun too! The kids like it!

My sister bought me a Pal Mickey with all the clothes last year. I used it for a few days and then he got on my nerves. I could never hear what he was saying. I will be sad to see him go but to me I cant stand taking things into the parks that I dont have to

This makes me sooo sad. I planned on getting one in our upcoming trip since DS is finally to the age he'd love it.

How long are they expected to work? Is there anywhere to get one not being at the park?
