Bringing your own Water & Snacks

My mom asked the question what is it they are looking for when they search your bags. I said I think they are looking for weapons and such. But she asked me can she bring her own water bottle and snacks?

Re: Bringing your own Water & Snacks

We do it all the time. We've taken entire meals (sandwiches, snacks, fruit) in a backpack with us. I'm sure the powers that be would rather we buy all our food in the park, but we just can't do that on our budget.

We've never had a guard say anything to us about it.

Re: Bringing your own Water & Snacks

Just NO glass bottles . . . and they like the bottles to be sealed so there is no sneaking in what you shouldn't!

I've seen some guards be strict and others wave them through with the open containers . . . but Glass is a big NO!

I've also seen families with small roll behind coolers!

We always bring our own drinks for DS. Snack also. We haven't had anyone say anything to us about it.

Re: Bringing your own Water & Snacks

This thread was very helpful. I just always assumed that you couldn't bring in any food or drink.

I guess that's what assuming does for me....LOL

Re: Bringing your own Water & Snacks

We've taken in water bottles and gatorade that we've broken the seal enroute to the park and we've never been questioned about it. When the kids were smaller, we would take in all sorts of snacks too...never a problem.

Re: Bringing your own Water & Snacks

The bag search is looking for weapons and contraband such as alcohol. you can bring water and snacks into the parks. Obviously, Disney would prefer that you purchase these things from them in the parks, but they will not stop you from bringing them into the parks.

No glass (except baby food jars and perfume bottles).

No alcohol.

No hard-sided or rolling coolers.

And at Animal Kingdom only, no straws and no fast-food-type plastic lids on soft drink cups.

Re: Bringing your own Water & Snacks

Officially, you are not suppose to bring snacks in. That being said, WDW doesn't stop you from doing it. It's up to your Mom. I don't bring things in because I don't want to carry it and I'm on vacation and hate pinching the pennies to that degree. It's not vacation if I have to worry about $2 for a water...I scrimp and save all year and give up many things to go to WDW..I refuse to be like that there too.

To answer the other question: They are seaching for weapons to the best of my knowledge...the took my 9mm handgun last trip....ok I'm kidding. Sorry I'm silly today. There is nothing funny about trying to bring weapons into WDW. They (security) started doing these bags searches after 9/11. Places that drew a lot of people (like WDW) were targets and are still considered targets after 9/11. Disney started this bag check so each person going into the parks were at least cleared for weapons in bags and such. I don't remember these bag checks before this time and I am almost certain this is when it started. So, not checking for food...checking for weapons..

This is not accurate, at least according to the e-mail I received in response from WDW Guest Communications when I asked the question (via e-mail). What I posted above were the only restrictions noted in the e-mail from Disney.

I stand corrected then. The unofficial guide to WDW clearly states no food or drink in the parks, but WDW doesn't carry-out the ban on consumables...my bad.
