MK on a Sat in Oct?
How crowded will MK be on Oct. 25?
We will be heading over there @ 4pm to see Spectro & FITS, since that will be the only day during our vacation they will be showing. My Q is, what to do b4 Spectro & when to get a seat for the parade. Is it out of the Q to try SM, HM or Splash b4 the parade? |

Hi Alice :)
I may not be the best person to reply, but when my DH and I went a few years back, we went in late Oct too. We were going to go to MK one Sat to watch Spectro and FITS - as we got to the parking, the attendant there told us that MK was maxed out in attendance, but as we were staying in a Disney Resort we were allowed in. We couldn't believe it! The parking lot had over 11,000 vehicles parked (not that we counted, but that's what we were told) lol. We were still able to get a spot (standing room only) to watch everything. It was absolutely wonderful :) I have to admit it was a bit scary trying to take the monorail back to the car after. If you do go and you are parking your car, take the resort monorail back to the TTC. It is usually less crowed than the others. Regardless of the attendance, I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. |

What is FITS (fireworks in the sky?) Maybe you can get a PS at the California Grill and watch from there. Is the schedule for October already out?

what if you have PS inside MK...
and the park has been closed because of high attendance numbers? Will they let us in?
We will also be attempting to see spectromagic and FitS on Saturday October 25. There is not a MNSSHP that night according to the schedule. (We go the next night :) ) I anticipate the park to be crowded, it being a weekend in the MK combined with the one viewing of Spectro. Thanks! |

Yes, I have checked the schedule for MNSSHP & compared w/2002 dates to get an estimated park hours time for Oct. 25, 03. MNSSHP will not be happening that night as of today. Who knows, they may change their minds.
Last year MK was open until 9pm on the Sat. that MNSSHP was not happening. So..... based on that, I am guessing that this year will be the same & since it is the only Sat. we will be there, I would like to see Spectro & FITS. We will head over to MK around 4pm. I would like to ride a ride or 2 (if I am not to hopeful) b4 the parade. Where would be a good place to watch from & how soon would we need to guard our personal body space b4 the parade. There is just me & my DH, no children & we do not need a front row seat. Any help from the wonderful experienced WDWer's @ Discentral Is much appreciated. |

I'm not going in Oct., but can tell you when we were there in May. Spectro Magic was only on Tues. & Sat. Trust me, it was a mad house. If that's when you can go, my suggestion is find yourself a spot, and "do not move".... Remember "do not move, from your spot"!!! Good luck!! JOANN:)

We were at MK for Spectromagic and FITS this past Oct for the same night you want to go. We chose the wooden platform in front of the shooting arcade in Frontierland. Good seat, can stand if someone is in front of you, lights behind you, not in your eyes. We had no problem with crowds although we did sit for the 1/2 hour before the parade. The park was not maxed as far as I know but around the castle and on Main St it was packed to uncomfortable! It is not a good spot for FITS if you want to see Tinkerbell and the fireworks unobstructed. We moved (quickly) from Frontierland to Fantasyland and the area right in front of Ariel's Grotto. Can't see Tinkerbell but the fireworks were incredible and the soundtrack was not as loud because it is aimed down Main Street not into Fantasyland. The lights were dimmed, the crowd was sparse and the show was great. We've seen both many times so we try to catch it from several places. If you want to see Tinkerbell, stand on the bridge between Castle Forecourt and Tomorrowland, fireworks will be slightly obstructed by trees.
We love going to WDW in October. THere are still crowds (not like summer) but not horrible, you can still do what you want with minimal waits of 10-20 minutes. Many things are walk on and the weather is lovely. Have a great time!

is it possible
to take the train from Frontierland back to mainstreet after Spetromagic? I thought I read somewhere that they close the train because of the parade floats having to cross the tracks. Do they open the train back up to passengers?
I like the idea of watching Spectro in the less crowded conditions of Frontierland. Am I asking for trouble expecting my boys (8,6, and 4) to go into the MK, for the first time ever, for dinner at Crystal Palace and then Specto but no rides? We will have to walk by many attractions... |

They do close the train but MK is very walkable and not too bad on the younger kids. You really won't be walking past too much temptation from the Crystal Palace to Frontierland but you will be directly in front of the shooting arcade, a place my 9yo cannot pass up! You could possibly jump on Jungle Cruise or Aladdins Magic Carpets on your way if you go through Adventureland. If you go past the castle into Liberty Square all you are passing is Hall of Presidents and the Liberty Belle, definitely missable for your age kids. They will be able to see Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain though... If you don't have time to ride, avoid Fantasyland at all costs! ;) You may be able to catch a few Fantasyland rides after Spectro Magic and before the fireworks but there is really only about 15 minutes between the two. It really depends who the fireworks are most important to, as in my case my 9yo doesn't care while I love them. Dad takes him to ride stuff and I watch FITS. Works out great! Have fun

I was at Spectro/FITS on a Saturday night last October. The park was very busy indeed. It coincided with the Walt Disney Golf Classic and we were told by a CM that many of the golf spectators had gone into the park when the golf had finished. We asked another CM for a good place to watch the parade from and he told us to wait outside the Ice Cream parlour as they were clearing a walkway there and we would get a clear view.
Unfortunately, they lost control of the crowds and everyone just stood in front of us. My children missed most of the the parade as I had to lift them up just to see glimpses as it passed by. The queues for the monorail were also caotic. Security could not handle the large crowds. People were line jumping. My party got split up and the children were upset. This was my worst experience at WDW in what otherwise was a holiday never to be forgotten.

About taking the train,
I had been thinking about taking the train from Frontierland to Main Street to facilitate exiting the park. I assume that Main Street is in gridlock and would be difficult to move through as people mill around waiting for FitS.
Does the train reopen after Spectro? Thanks! |
