Question about strollers
We are going in September and staying for 7 days. I was wondering whether to rent a stroller or bring an umbrella stroller. Does anyone know how much it costs to rent a stroller for a day? Also I was wondering if you bring your own stroller and leave it outside while on a ride does anybody bother it? And one more thing what should we expect weather wise this time of year "Very Rainy"?

Welcome to Disney Central! I think strollers are crucial for kids under age 6! The single strollers are $8 per day with a $1 refund when you turn it in. If you rent at one park and hop to another, just present your receipt and get a stroller at a different park at no extra cost. Also, if your stroller gets taken (which I've never had happen) you simply show your receipt and they'll give you another at n/c.
I would advise against an umbrella stroller for two reasons. 1) They don't provide any shade and Sept. can be very hot! and 2) They offer poor storage. If you would like to save money and take your own stroller I'd go for a full size stroller that has a nice storage basket and canopy. A full size stroller allows a young child a padded, sheltered & reclined position for a nap. And if the child is older he/she will be more comfortable in a larger stroller. I've taken a full size stroller on 3 trips and rented on one trip. We prefer to rent now that DD is older and can walk a little more. The first 3 times we wanted our own stroller because there can be a lot of walking outside of the parks (getting to and from resort) and also shopping at DtDisney. Renting is nice because when we want to make a mad dash for the exit we can leave the stroller and not have to worry about smashing toes as we navigate our way out. We've never had a problem with leaving our stroller outside rides/attractions. CM's often have to rearrange the strollers to accomodate more stroller parking but that is the worst thing that could happen. With the rentals it helps if you tie a brightly colored scarf or ribbon on the handle that way you are sure to find your stroller even if it is relocated. |

Hi and welcome!
We always bring our own "big" stroller. Our DSs are 5 and 16mths. We find they are much more comfortable in their own stroller, especially when you are usually going for most of the day. We have also rented strollers there. They are comfy and provide needed shade. This visit we will probably rent a stroller for our 5 yr. old if he wants one and bring the big stroller for our little guy. As for rain- everytime we visit we come prepared with our ponchos. It may be sunny leaving in the morning but rain can blow in at anytime(especially when you don't have your poncho!!):nooo: Have a great time!

Hi, and welcome to DC!!!
My DS is 20 months old and when we go in August, he will be 22 months old. We are bringing our own stroller...for us, it's just easier that way. When we were there last May, he was 7 months old and he couldn't walk yet, so he was in the stroller almost 100% of the time (unless we were holding him!). Now that he is running all over the place, there is no way he will stay in the stroller all day! :nooo: As Dab said, an umbrella stroller does not have any storage, nor does it have any protection from the sun. I don't like umbrella strollers at all...they also don't have any support for baby's back, which I don't like...We like to use a lightweight stroller when we travel...it still has a canopy and a basket for storage! :D

hi & welcome!
we bring our own stroller also. We never had any one "bother" it when we are off on rides. The CM's do move the strollers around from time to time so you may have to look for it when you come off the ride, but they seem to try and keep it in the general area where you left it in my expierences.

I seem to be the only one who loves the umbrella stroller! Of course me DD is 2 1/2 and we went in March when the heat isn't so brutal. We used our full size one until she was 2. DD loves her umbrella stroller and doesn't like the full sized ones. She falls asleep in her umbrella stroller and is fine. One of the biggest positives to an umbrella stroller is it is smaller folded up and when you are on a standing room only bus that is awesome. It is completely up to you, you know your child best.
We didn't have one single problem with it being left outside the ride. We did put one of our luggage tags on it just in case though that had our address. |

We always bring our own full-size stroller it's just easier for us because it offers so much storage space that we don't wind up having to carry anything and we always rent a car so space on a bus is not a problem. I always leave everything in the stroller (except for valuables) when we go on rides and I have never had anyone bother anything, I figure the strollers are out in the open so someone would have to be pretty brave to rumage through it right out in the open (Yes I know there are people who are that brave) and there is usually at least one CM right around the stroller parking so I feel pretty safe. Besides even if someone were to steal something from our stroller all they would get would be maybe a bottle and some diapers, possibly a juice box.:laugh

We just went a few weeks ago with our 17 month old, I found it easier to bring my own stroller. And I will repeat everything everyone else has said, the storage and coverage for the little ones is great. I also am not a big fan of umbrella strollers. I do however have a 2nd stroller, made by Graco, that is called the "CityLite" (Ithink!) It is very light weight (weighs maybe 5 lbs) has a canopy and a huge basket.
I have never had anyone bother my strollers while we were on rides other than CM's moving them, but I also don't leave anything of value in the stroller when we are not right there. HTH

About umbrella strollers
There is one umbrella stroller that I want to recommed:
Chicco makes one that has a canopy that you can flip up for when it gets sunny. It also comes with a carry strap, small bag for stuff, and a rain cover. It also has zippers on the side so you can recline it a little too for naps. The seat is heavyweight nylon type fabric so it dries quickly too. It runs about $50. I love it!! We got one for our trip this past January and it was perfect! Lightweight and comfortable for my son (18 months then). We will be going back in late September for about a week and will take it with us again. This stroller has MORE than paid for itself in what rental fees would run. Whatever stroller you bring, you may want to tie something to it or mark it in some way so that when the strollers get re-arranged it is easier for you to pick it our from all the others. Hope this helps!

My boys are 7 and almost 10. for a lot of years we brought our double stroller-even when big boy didn't use it. The storage is great and the getting around, not just the parks but hotels, parking lots etc. is much better with your own stroller. When we fly they let us bring it to the boarding gate and then check it. It is the first thing at the door when we get off the plane at the other end and we use it to carry the luggage.

We were at Epcot (halfway through World Showcase), when we stopped so I could take a picture of DH, DS and my brother. Well, when I pushed the stroller to go again, I heard something crack and the entire wheel fell off...THERE WAS NO WAY TO FIX IT, THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY WAS BROKEN! :nooo: Apparantly, I left the brake on and decided to push HARD (we were on an incline) and the stroller broke. Well, we had no stroller, we found a payphone and called Graco to find out where they sell this stroller in Orlando sowe could go exchange it for another one! It turns out, the only place they would have it is Toys R Us and/or Babies R Us...So we found a Toys R Us, and spent 2 hours on a STROLLER FINDING mission...well, it turns out they did not have the stroller, and we were forced to buy another one. We ended up buying the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which my DS absolutely LOVES! And although my Graco party lite was broken, we decided to take it home anyway and exchange it at our own Babies R Us for a brand new one. So we traveled home with 2 strollers, one that wouldn't even roll, so we had to carry...WHICH WAS A NIGHTMARE, but we survived, and although I had a VERY bad experience, I still love this stroller! You better believe that I double check and triple check each time I push that stroller, though! ;) :D :dazed

If you bring your own stroller (which I HIGHLY recomend - two trips with 2 and 3 yr-old boys!!), make sure to use it at the airport too!! It makes a wonderful luggage cart, especially if your lugging a car seat like we did! The attendants let you roll it right down the jet-way to your plane and then they stow it underneath. When you "de-plane" (I love that word!) Its right outside the plane in the jet-way just waiting for you!! Airports can be extremely crowded and full of people! It was great having the stroller and knowing where at least one kid was!!!

I would bring my own stroller. This trip we will be bringing two strollers. I just got a real cute stroller at Walmart for $30. I think it may be the Graco Lite everyone is speaking about. It is navy with colorful animals. It reclines, has great storage and a place for the baby to keep a drink and snack.
As Buzzmommy said strollers are a great help in the Airports. And you can just push them up to the plane before you board and they will store it for you. As you leave it will be waiting for you.

First of all let me explain that my kids are 6, 4 & 4. We always rent a double stroller from the park. Now since my kids are not too little we do not always need it but it makes a nice place for them to rest during the day. I can even fit all three in it if need be. I like the fact that you can just drop it off and pick up one at another park by just bringing your name tag and receipt. I can also leave it at a train station in the MK and pick up another one if we get off at another station. I have to carry a backpack so I wouldn't want to bring an umbrella stroller that I have to carry.
Again, my kids are a little older so that really makes a difference on the type of stroller. |
