1 More Space Mountain Question

I feel like I'm bugging people with my questions about Space Mountain, but I hope you won't mind just one more. I really appreciated everyone's reassurances that my skinny nine year old son (55 inches tall, 65 pounds) won't fly out at the top of Space Mountain, but my mother is STILL worried that he is doomed if we let him ride. I'm hoping that if I can describe the cars to her in definite detail, she'll stop worrying (and making me feel guilty and frightened) about my wanting to let him ride.

I've gotten conflicting reports both from the internet and from people I've asked about what kind of restraints the cars on Space Mountain in Orlando, Florida have. I've seen two varieties of lap restraints on internet photos (both claim to be Space Mountain cars in Orlando), one is a standard u-shaped lap bar, and the other is a t-shaped lap bar. Someone told me in my previously posted thread that Space Mountain in Orlando uses shoulder harnesses, but I thought that was only true for the Space Mountain in Paris, France, not Orlando, Florida. Can anyone tell me absolutely positively surely which restraint the cars in Orlando actually have?

Thank you so much for your help!:)

We did not ride SM on our most recent trip so I cannot remember the exact restraints they use, but if you think about it there is absolutely no way that Disney is going to put any child in danger. They are not going to risk the future of the entire company by letting a child who has even the smallest chance of falling out or being injured in any way ride this ride. If you really don't feel comfortable with your son riding SM then skip it, you'll have plenty of fun even if you miss SM. There are plenty of other rides you can go on. Enjoy your trip and don't worry about the possibility of missing one ride.:D

Maybe these pictures might help a bit:

Space Mountain cars

My kids are ultra skinny, skinnier than your son, and have never even had any sort of problem on this ride, or any of the rides for that matter. With the way that the restraints are set up, you are much more at danger riding it if you are overweight than if you are skinny. People just don't get hurt on rides at Disney, unless they are negligent or some freak accident occurs, in which case, weight doesn't matter in either.

If you have any concerns when you get there, just go stand at the exit of the ride, and wait a couple of minutes until you see someone about he same height and weight as your son, and ask them if they every felt in danger at all.

My Mother is a super worrier just like yours so I know what you are going through! My DGD age 6 and very short and thin rode SM with no problems and loved it. In fact we had to put platform sandals on her to get her to be tall enough for the ride. Unless your son is scared I can't imagine any danger. The ride is awesome. My DD rode it at age 3 many years ago before they had height restrictions(the cars were different then you all sat together and could hold on to each other).

I just want to say thank you for your responses to my post. I know I feel VERY reassured, and hopefully I'll be able to reassure my mother so that she won't worry so much about my son riding Space Mountain. Thank you again!:)
