E-ride nights in may cancelled!

Can someone explain why they have done this? I am so angry right now! It's bad enough that the Magic Kingdom closes at 6:00 most night we are there , and now they do this! I thought the crowds were picking up? This makes no sense! Please help me make sense of this!

Disneydreamer,
How did you hear about this? I planned on using E-ride nights in July, and I've heard nothing about any cancellations.

Call Disney , they will confirm it. This is an outrage. Disney strikes again!

It appears to be true, Disney has cancelled all of the scheduled e-ride nights for May, 2002. While this at first glance appears to be a negative move, I feel that it is a positive one. First off, I will only go to WDW when MK is open until 6 or 7. My idea of a vacation is not standing in line all day to ride a couple of rides, leaving our room at 7 AM and not getting back until Midnight. The reason that MK has such short hours is that they are not expecting big crowds. So, if you are going, and MK is only open until 6 or 7 PM, don't complain. You should be estatic! You will be able to ride any ride you want to your hearts content. There will be minimal lines.

What is not being said is that Disney has cancelled most of the April e-ride nights as well. April 15th was cancelled, and not cancelled until that day. But, every night when there was an e-ride scheduled, the park hours were extended. So, you don't get the e-ride night, but you get longer hours. At least you don't have to pay. We have only done the e-ride thing once, and I probably won't do it again. We spend all day in the parks, I don't want to spend all night as well. There are so many other things to do at WDW than just the parks.

Just watch the official hours page, and you will see the park hours for MK change for the month of May. One thing you have to realize is that Disney doesn't owe us anything. They are a company that exists to make money. They know exactly which rides make money and which don't. They know which rooms in which hotels make money. They know everything that you can imagine. If something isn't making money, they change it. Well, I understand that e-ride nights are a money losing proposition for WDW. Think of all the people they have to pay, extra electricity, wear on the rides, etc. Not to mention bus drivers, buses, monorail etc. All for $12 per person. If only 1,000 people go, they would lose their shirt!

Disneydreamer, you will have a wonderful vacation, even if there is no e-ride night, or if MK is only open until 7 PM. Visit the boardwalk and rent a bike, go to Cirque du Soleil, go to dinner at Jiko or Boma in the AKL or just walk around your resort. It's WDW, it will be great!

Mickey,

I agree with everything that you say...but...

I'd much prefer that Disney announce e-ride nights with shorter notice. I could see myself planning my time at Disney incorporating e-ride nights... So announcing them and then canceling them isn't the best move they could make.

Just my opinion...

I agree, I think it creates a lot of bad PR for them by announcing the schedule and then cancelling the e-ride nights. Many people plan their vacations around the e-ride nights, for whatever reason. Hence, when they get cancelled, people get mad. Of course, Disney changes the hours that MK is open almost every day from the posted hours on their site. They adjust to expected crowds, and are usually right on.

My guess is that they are expecting bigger crowds during May, so they are going to extend the hours of MK, and have decided to reduce the number of e-ride nights.
