Is Disney really doing a paid FP system 'cause I haven't heard that at all. Or is it just rumor & speculation?

Re: Fireworks Dessert Party at Magic Kingdom

OK, well I think so far I am going to be the first one to do this (June 27th) so I will surely come back and say whether it was really crappy & not worth it, or if it was good. You have 24 hours prior to the event to cancel so I plan on walking by the area on the 24th or 25th to check out the situation, if it looks great I will keep my reservation but if it looks dodgey I will call & cancel.

Anybody care to hear another opinion?

I have had such a tough time with watching Wishes the past few times that I would gladly give a bucket of cash to have a spot I can call my own. Just once, I would like to see the show without someone elbowing me out of the spot I had been standing in for an hour. One time, if I could see it without having someone's stroller whack me on the ankles over and over... you get the idea.

But onto the other issue: Every single inch of WDW is clearly laid out to be segmented for special events. Even at Illuminations, you never know when someone will rent a lovely area for their own official viewing party. At Boardwalk, weddings rent out the landing (between ESPN and IG), making it off limits for everyone else. There are terraces, party rooms, gardens, etc. all over the place that are available for private rentals. I see the dessert debacle as the same thing. People are paying a small bit extra to have a tiny private area of their own.

There are times when an entire park shuts down and there is a private party, when the thousands of other guests have no place to be! My DH went to one of these without us (grrr) and said their company had the entire MK to themselves for hours.

The dessert thing is no different, really, than P&PP or MNSSHP -- people pay extra and others get shoved out. That's just the way.

But I don't see it as inconveniencing anyone, because Wishes goes on and nobody will be denied the chance to see it along with everyone else. The special FPs, on the other hand, would affect everyone negatively except the holder.

(That said, if they make the special FPs available, I will be first in line to buy one. I'm no fool. )
Well said! I think a paid FP system would affect the whole infrastructure they've set up to help with the issue of wait times. To me, the paid dessert & nice viewing area option isn't a huge issue, because I can still go somewhere else and see the fireworks equally well without paying extra. It's not really the same thing to me.

Good points MissD. I guess taking over that spot for a paid event would only inconvenience those guests who were used to sitting there. I have sat there a couple of times to watch Wishes before, so I feel badly that it will no longer be available. That actually was a spot where you did not have anyone bumping into you or getting in front of you as the wall clearly defined your space. No wonder the Disney suits looked at it as a way to make money.

I believe the deluxe fastpass system is still a rumor at this point, but it caused a lot of heated replies from MB members in another thread. The most popular viewpoint there was that Disney intended for everyone to have the same, equal chance at enjoying the attractions and that it was unfair for guests with more money to enjoy preferential treatment.

As for deluxe fastpasses inconveniencing everyone, the way I see it is Disney could change the number of fastpasses at any given time and how would we know anyway? They gave away a set number of Dream fastpasses daily as part of the YOAMD and it wasn't a noticeable delay.

My point is, they will make their money with extra percs as long as people are willing to pay for them.

I don't know if I would do this for "standing room only". But if I chair was involved to relax and enjoy the wait and the show I'd be there.

I just called & asked, the Dining line representative I talked to asked 'management' (whoever that is ) and was told that there WILL be seating for the dessert area but when the show starts guests will be standing closer to the railing with no seating.

Presumably, I guess it would be your choice to remain further back in the seats where the desserts are but I think I know exactly which area they are talking about & it is an unobstructed view when standing there.

Hmm....what if you call it dinner? Desserts for dinner-where else but Disney can you do that and not feel guilty.

Amen sistah! We've also had really great luck on the train station patio. What a great spot, and easy-out after the show, too!

I'm starting to think about it too. The only thing holding me back is my son, he's an adult at WDW and I know he won't eat much more than cookies. I'll run it by my husband tonight and see what he thinks.

Canoli, pistachio creme brulee, various chocolate items, and there's got to be a key lime pie or tart involved.
OK, the menu passes my test.

Re: Fireworks Dessert Party at Magic Kingdom

I should point out that last year, Disney ran an experimental buffet in the Noodle Terrace, but nothing has been heard about that, or the experimental buffet they tried at El Pirata y el Perico.
