Disney Dinosaur Ride - - Scary?

I know I just signed up for this thing but now I have a million questions!!!!! THanks to all who have replied/will reply to my other post regarding our trip. Help is much appreciated! Anywho, my daughter is 4 and is tall enough to ride the Disney Dinosaur ride, however, I have heard from a few friends that it is rather frightening (I am a big baby too!) so I just wanted opinions of those who have ridden it. My daughter reads dinosaur books and loves the DD movie. Thanks again!

Angela,

My oldest daughter (then 9) did most of the ride with her eyes closed... and she rode Tower of Terror when she was 4.

It's pretty intense. I'd try it yourself first...

That is a good suggestion to try it yourself first. This is probably the only ride in all of WDW that I think the height restriction is pointless. It is quite scary, and honestly, has little to do with the Dinosaur movie. I took my 4 year old last year and she was ok, but didn't want to do it again. My nephew threw a fit, he didn't like it at all. My daughter just closed her eyes most of the time and was fine.

For more info, we had a small discussion on this a while ago: Dinosaur

I really liked the ride and I love the scary ones too. But I have to admit it was a tense ride. I was on the outside seat and was leaning in on my wife who was seated on the middle seat next to me. It is a really dark (barely any light) and loud ride. It's the sound that makes it so tense and scary. They make it sound like the dinosaur is coming at you in the pitch black dark. I am looking forward to riding it again on the next trip, but I don't know if my kids will enjoy it as much. It is so hard to decide without knowing exactly how they will react and if you get on the ride and find out it was a bad idea in the middle of the ride, well you are stuck to ride it out.

I guess work your way up on less scary rides and gradually see how much more they can take.

Anyone have a graduating ride scale to try, especially for kids. Something like, if they can ride It's a Small World, than maybe they can ride the Pirates of the Carribean, then the Dumbo ride, then Space Moutain. Something like that?

Just an idea. :)

alien encounter and this ride are the only rides in disney im afraid to go on! It is a VERY good idea to go on it first by yourself to see if its to intense, if not make sure your daughter sits in the middle of you and who ever your on the ride with!! There are plenty of things that pop out and terrify the people at the ends, they practically climb ontop of the person next to them, lol. It is a pretty dark and scary ride, but if your daughter isnt scared of alien encounter then i think this will be no problem. She can always close her eyes and pretend she was on its a small world
(thats what i did) but u cant get away from the other peoples screams and the sound effects.
Joe:)

DIsney Dinosaur

Unfortunately she is afraid of aliens...so thats totally out of the question! Dino's aren't so bad but I read a few things about it that just seem like she will be petrified! Thanks for the responses...we will definately go on it first and check it out!

I'm obviously in the minority here, but my 2 daughters went on the ride when they were 31/2 and 71/2 respectively, and they and I both loved it. Yes, it can be scary, but they knew it wasn't real and had a great time.:) :) :p :p

well here is my two cents worth.... my 7 year old did not like it because of the pitch black and my 4 1/2 year old didn't like it because its really loud.... I didn't care too much either due to how loud it was..... but if they don't like loud and dark things then this one wouldn't work... byw.. my 4 year old didn't like Snow WHites scarry adventure either

The best thing to do would be to ride it yourself, then decide if your kids will be able to handle it. You know your kids better than anyone else, always remember that with thrill rides. If you have any doubts, describe the ride to the kids and let them decide.

The ride is quite intense. We have a souviner picture and everyone looks terrorized - adults and kids.

Riding it yourself first is a good idea. If you do decide to take her on, remember that you might affect the rest of her trip and any dark rides.

Good luck.:)

I agree...

Dinosaur is a pretty cool ride, but I would tend to agree with the majority here, ride it first to see. Only you know how tough your kid is. Some kids love this ride, while others are scared to death of it. There is a LOT of darkness in here, so that may be a factor to consider.

Have a great trip...I'm jealous. ;)
