Behind The Scenes Tours

Has anyone ever taken any of these tours? My DS will be 17 when we go next year and we have been talking about he and I doing some of them. He will be gone a year later and I am trying to do some things with him before then. We will probably do the one about the Steam Trains because 10 yo DS will be able to do that one. But what about any of the others? Are there any you have done that were not worth the money? Any help would be great. By the way, any of the diving or water ones are out, he does not like the water.

Thanks!
Cyndy

Hi there,

I've only had the privilege of doing the "Behind The Seeds" backlot tour at The Land in EPCOT, but it was excellent. The CM takes you outside of the main builiding and into the actual greenhouses and research labs, showing off a range of insects, pest control techniques, and then onto the 'nursery', the greenhouses, the fish / gator area and finally the main greenhouse. I won't spoil things, suffice to say that some of the plants/vegetables and growing techniques were fascinating (to me anyway), all presented in an enthusiastic and not-too-technical fashion. It was also quite cool being 'on the other side of the curtain' so to speak, when a normal ride 'boat' went fast full of gawping riders.

The tour was very cheap and lasted about an hour...was very hot inside the greenhouses but drinking stations were available along the route, all in all a nice (and cheap!) way of being able to do something different in the park.

Hope this helps!

Gareth

If you look in the Trip Reports forum I think that you should find descriptions of various of the Disney tours.

At first it started very small as most dreams do.
A twinkle in an eye, the thrill of something new.
But then the dream began to grow and come alive.
Touching every one of us, lighting up the sky.
We share a magic day, we share enchanted nights
It's a neverending story and together we all find
It's been a part of me, it's been a part of you.
A part of growing up together
Sharing a dream come true.

My favorite was Wild By Design at AK. I like the park designs and the ideas behind what we see so it was great. We also have done Keys to the Kingdom (excellent), Undiscovered Future World (very good), and Hidden Treasures (also very good). Read the descriptions and pick the one you think you will be most interested in, you won't go wrong, they are all worth the money.

I thoroughly recommend the 7-hour Backstage Magic tour. It's the most expensive of the tours ($199 before any discounts) Disney offers but is an unforgettable experience. My wife and I gave each other the tour for Christmas last year and it was the best money we've ever spent at WDW. Check out some reviews of the Backstage Magic tour.

Thank you Park Hopper! I had not heard of that tour. Backstage Magic is on my must do list. My DS will love it. I think we will try and do at least one other one. I want to do at least one of the AK tours. Thanks for all the help, everyone! :)
