This is a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY good description of the ride! Great job, Park Hopper!!! I did ride it and although I am glad I did, I don't think I will be riding it any time soon!!! It did get me a little sicker than normal, but I do get sick on spinning rides. And you are right, although you don't actually think you are spinning, I think you get the same feeling anyway (which is why I got nauseaus...I can handle anything but spinning! ) I am glad I rode, and I do recommend for everyone to at least TRY it once...and if you get sick, you don't have to do it again! But it is really cool and at least you can wear the I RODE MISSION SPACE tee shirt! LOL...

In the past I have put "cheat" shoes on her just before entering a ride she was not quite tall enough for ( they have a 2 inch heel on them). I only do it for rides like Splash Mountain not rollercoasters. Is this a type of ride I could use them for or would it be too dangerous? How are you harnessed in? Thanks for all the information. I'd like to set expectations before we get to the ride. How long is the pre-flight instructions, etc. before the ride?

BTW, you did an excellent job describing the ride. My DH read your post and he is so excited!!
Disneydana, the ride harness is a hard, molded restraint that you pull down over your head and chest. You can hear the mechanism ratcheting notch by notch as you pull it down to a comfortable fit. If you pull it down too far to where it is uncomfortable, I could find no apparent way of loosening it. I hesitate to give you a recommendation one way or another about the "cheat" shoes. Mission: Space isn't overly violent but if your child is too short, I fear the restraint wouldn't contact her body properly and might even block her vision.

Once you leave the waiting line and are divided into "teams," there are two stages of pre-flight instruction, one before you enter the capsule and a shorter one once inside when you're given the specifics of the job assigned to you. I'd say the whole pre-flight probably lasts about 3 or 4 minutes. Again, my estimate could be off because once you enter the capsule it becomes a little intense as you hurry to stow your gear in the space provided, pull down the restraint and pay attention to the instructions.

Thanks Park Hopper! This was the information I was looking for. If my DD isn't tall enough then we will probably skip it. I'm not comfortable fudging it on rides that have an overhead harness. Thanks again-- like I said, I want to set expectations before we get there. You were very helpful!!:) :)

I totally can't wait to try this ride!!! :) Although, I have to admit, it's likely I'll be pulling out the Dramamine. And this will probably be a ride we do at the *end* of the day!!!!! I don't want any chance of it ruining our day...but there's no way I won't try it at least once!!! :D

Hey DISNEYDANA,
We have those same "cheat shoes"!!!
I have not been on yet (51 days to go!) but my neices and nephews and my Parents (almost 70's) went on. My niece is 7 and loved it, as well as my parents. When we go, we are taking my 5 1/2 year DS on it, he loves Tower of Terror and all the big rides...hoping he likes it...hoping I like it
Den:)

MrDisneyfan1--aren't the "cheat shoes" great. I read this tip in the Unofficial Guide to WDW. Last trip we had to use them a few times. This trip DD is tall enough for everything we would want to do except Mission Space. Oh well. Hope you enjoy the ride!:D :laugh

That was the best description I have read of MS. Thanks so much. Do you think Dramimine would help. I can't ride things like the teacups but most simulator rides don't bother me (BW did the first time I rode but not the next time) I have to experience this ride at least once but don't want it to spoil the rest of the day.

Disney has a MS site:

http://disney.go.com/vacations/missi.../password.html

The password I used was walt. There is a great video of people riding MS. I especially like the kid that says "I can't feel my stomach" that will probably be ME!

Enjoy,

I was at Epcot again yesterday and took a couple of more spins on Mission: Space. Both rides were about an hour or so after having eaten lunch, and my friends and I didn't feel the slightest bit of nausea.

I spoke with a cast member after riding and she said Disney had been "adjusting" the ride because there'd been problems with people feeling ill. She was pretty vague when I asked her when the adjusting had been done, so I really don't know if this is something that occurred since I rode Mission: Space last week or not.

At any rate, I've now ridden six times and do believe it's better to have eaten beforehand rather than ride on an empty stomach.

Mission Space, IMHO is absolutely the BEST !! We only got to ride it once, and with all the warnings, I admit I was quite apprehensive about the ride before it started - I even had to ask how long it lasted LOL (4 min BTW).

It was just like the commecial on the Disney TV channel - we were all sitting there going "Oh WOW" and "Awesome!!".

I don't think any of us experienced any negative effects after the ride (46, 46, 18, 13). We rode first thing in the AM after a good breakfast.

The g-forces are something - only thing I experienced was tearing from my eyes. But I thought it was a neat effect.

No other ride compares. Out of all the rides at the 4 parks, it was the only one I really wanted to ride again.
