Alien Encounter

Can those of you who have been on Alien Encounter tell me just how intense/scary this is? I have no intentions of allowing my 8 year old on, but trying to decide if it's worth it for me to go on....

well right now it is down for refurbishment, and the rumor is a stitch theme will be added. If that's the case, I believe your son will enjoy it!

Hope that helps,
Yzma

I didn't think it was at all scary but it could be to little kids. It was lame in my opinion. I was expecting more from it. Been there, done that and haven't been back. If you have never done it and you have a chance you sould do it once but I wouldn't wait in a long line to do it.

I honestly can't stand for there to be anything at DW I haven't tried once. It is not my favorite but as rumor has it that it will close soon I would go on if you get a chance. I really didn't find it scary but an 8 year old probably would.....unless they really like that sort of thing.;)

I will tell you that I was totally scared.... mind you, all I had heard were stories of how awful it was... after I did it, I was kinda like, "That was it?" I am a scaredy cat and hate to be scared. I personally, wouldn't take my 10-year-old on it, but that is just me. My hubby might overide that... he loves to be scared. :nervous

My younger DS and I tried it the year it opened. I think he was around 15 at the time. We both totally enjoyed it, but I have not been back on it since. My oldest DS went on it last year, he is really into stagecraft and thought the production and technique were very good, but that it was not as scary as I had made it out to be. My younger DD is 13 this year and really wants to try it when we go in Nov, I guess I will have to go along with her. :hmmm

I would say the only downside was the poor very young children whose parents disregarded the warnings and who were screaming to be let out, I felt really badly for them as there is no panic exit once the "show" starts.

While the attention to detail and the imagineering that went into is definitly first rate, this ride never really felt "Disney" to me, a little too "dark" for my taste.

But then I really love IASW so how sane can I be!

I'm a 'grown up', have been on it twice and have mixed feelings.

On my first visit, I thought that it was scary and that the effects had a good psychological impact. I also felt that the scene where the fuzzy critter gets fried was in poor taste.

On my second visit, we were near two children (6-9?) and their parents. The kids were crying before entering the pre-show and were hysterical as the regular show started. It was upsetting to see the parents laughing at the conditions of their children.

I will not ride again.

How awful

That'a terrible that a parent would do that....I would not even think about bringing my just turned 8 year old dd on that ride. She has such a vivid imagination that I know she would be completely hysterical. If a child is crying before even getting into the pre-show, I would hope the CM's at disney would step in and not let them on (since obviously the parent's did not have enough maturity to let them skip it).

I personally wouldn't bring an 8 year old on this ride, unless you know for sure your child is not scared of anything! The first time I went on, I was a bit scared!!!! I mean, I KNOW it isn't real, but for some children it could DEFINITELY be scary! I am glad I was able to do it, but as DT said, I wouldn't wait on a long line to do it again! :dazed

To be perfectly honest and somewhat blunt.......Alien Encounter stinks. There isn't anything about it that's even remotely scary or thrilling. The effects used are lame and cheesy, and I walked out of there thinking "why did I waste my time?" I was more impressed by the robot out from the wait queue than I was with the animatronic alien inside. It's extremely lame and an attraction I wouldn't think twice about walking past and not into.

I love AE and would recommend doing it. It's way too intense for children, but I thought it was scary in a fun way for adults. During rehab if they change it, I'm sure I'll like the new attraction but will be a little sad and disappointed because this is one of my favorites!

I thought it was very scary the first time I went on it. Every time since then, I just laugh thru it. I enjoy AE. The one time I didnt enjoy it was when I had my DS, who was 7 at the time, with me. The worst part is that you are pinned into your seat so you cant put your arm around your child to comfort him/her. I just kept telling him it was only pretend. (which isnt easy either since some parts are very loud and it seems there is alot going on) He was scared but not traumatized. He went on again this past May, he is 9 now, and he enjoyed it since he knew exactly what to expect. It did still jump him a few times though.

I have mixed opinions about AE. I loved it when I first went on! I thought the effects were great, the breathing on the neck, the splatters, the complete darkness. But now we know whats coming, it looses some of the thrill. I will not bring my 6 year old on for now. Hey,if your children get upset on Snow White or the Alien part of the Great Movie Ride...stay away from this!

I just returned from disney world on Saturday and I rode Alien Encounter. I have riden it about 3 times now and everytime I get alittle jumpy. I know everything that happens and I know Im in disney world and that there really IS'NT an alien lose in the room but the effects make it so realistic! If you can sit through a scary looking carnivous alien running amock while you are held down in is seat by a shoulder bar thingie with the alien "breathing" on you and having "blood" squirted on you, then you can survive the ride! lol In other words, if you dont like being scared, minor gore or have problems with darkness then I wouldnt ride it. lol.
