PAP questions, Please.
We are waiting until October 13th to buy our tickets. I will be calling SOG to confirm, but asking you pros a few easy questions. We can use credit cards to buy them there right? They are the same PAP's sold elsewhere right? Quite awhile ago I was quoted a price of $470.00 per ticket, anything cheaper around? The DW is afraid to tell the schools of our upcoming trip, they will be missing six days. So I will be the heavy, I think I will tell them the good and wise people of DC said it was alright, and not to worry!!!!!!!! :nervous :nervous :nervous :nervous

I would probably look at mousesavers. I took my kids out of school for 2 weeks to go to WDW. I had to sign a sheet stating it was educational and they wouldn't count it against her being absent. Her teacher asked her to write a journel of what happened every day. My son was in pre K and they told me it would be alright. Oh my daughter was in 3rd grade and her teacher sent along some homework as well.

I am taking all my kids out of school, my 3rd grader's teacher totally understands but my 4th and 5th grader's principle was kinda like 8 days that's quite a long time (they are gonna miss 4-1/2 days) which I know is a lot of school BUT what do you think they will remember, going to school all year or GOING TO WDW!!!? My bet is WDW!!!
So being the "good mother" I went on disneydollarless.com and printed travel journals for the kids and the question and answer sheets too. (gave the answer sheets to the teachers) I figured at night (because most parks close early) the kids can right down the answers. so I hope they can get at least their comprehension skills done for the week!? ;) Hope this helps!! TTFN, Jacki:)

As a teacher for 30 years and 5th grade for 16 years I can understand the principal apprehension. However, if you kids are good students there should be no problem with them catching up. If not, you really should take their texts and have them do a few things at night after the parks close. No way should the school not cooperate with you on this wonderful trip, I always help out parents on when trips come up.

I agree with you taking them out of school. We all really need to enjoy life with our family and stop taking things so seriously. within reason of course. :laugh

Thanks for the support, my kids are GREAT students, they put their best effort forth and that is all I ask! But with the way the world is now a days I feel they should have some good in life (not that school is bad) but fun with their family, I love the ages of my kids and they are alot of fun and very well behaved (no way are they rude to adults, I wouldn't stand for it!) but they are kids very excitable and busy and I wouldn't have them any other way!!
This is their first time ever in WDW and they have NO IDEA what to expect. That right there is priceless!! anyways enough of my babbling on and on..... we are going to disney in.......... TTFN, Jacki:)

Hello
We had a heck of a time getting our children out of school this time. The principal signed the request but said that the absence would be unexcused. I am not sure how the absence would be unexcused when I just excused it but what can you do? We took the kids out last year for a week when we went to DW and that was the only 5 days that all four of my kids missed all year. I am not sure why they are being so difficult about it. I feel that family time is extremely important and if they call it unexcused, then so be it. We will be having fun amd making great memories!:D :D :D

The school district I work for as a substitute teacher is very strict about absences. If you miss 9 days in a semester, you fail for the year unless you appeal. I guess the point of my post is find out what your district's policy on absences, excused or otherwise,is,and plan accordingly.

Wow, that is a tough rule mickaholic. We have nothing like that in my school. Our kids are allowed 10 days/year and after that you have to have a note from a doctor. However, I have several students who miss 20+ days per year and nothing ever happens to them.

I reading this and I just cannot believe it?!?!?!?!?!?!?
How come it would even be the school or district to decide what we do with are kids(for vacation). It's not like they would be missing a year of nuclear physics. Usualy what they would learn in 1 week can be covered in 1 day doing 1 on 1 with a parent. I don't know for all the school but usualy them know a lot in advance what they are going to teach during a whole month even more. I used to teach at a collegial level and all was prepare 3 months in advance. It's gets me mad to see the hard time parents would get, for taking the whole family on a special event. Believe me, not all parents takes the time to do it. Sorry for the long post, it just got me mad:(

Oh,I agree that the policy of my district is very harsh. That's why sometimes I think that if I were a parent and wanted to take my kids out of school for a vacation,I might just say they are sick.

I was very lucky this past March when we went on the Disney Cruise and to DW for a few days. I pulled my (then first grade) son out of school one week before Spring vacation so that we would have more time to spend in Florida(we even stopped in St.Augustine after leaving the ship)...I just couldn't get off the ship and head straight home.
My son had not missed any days of school before our vacation. Our kids are allowed to miss...I think it is 10...days of school. Fortunately Chris did not get sick and need to miss any more school days after returning from Florida. His teacher was very cooperative and she put together a packet of work for him to do each evening so that he wouldn't get behind. However, as he gets older and school gets harder I think we are going to plan our trips so that we won't have to pull him out of school. My dh has a seasonal job and that is why we can only travel as a family Dec thru the beginning of April. I took Chris to DW this past July with friends of ours and his daddy stayed home as he couldn't get off work....anyway, Chris really missed his daddy. It was the first time he was seperated from daddy by so many miles! He told me that he only wanted to travel when daddy could go with us! Let's see: we were there in March. I went back in July. Don't you think we should be making plans to go back in December? I do. Anyone planning a December trip?

The problem I have is that I feel like who is the parent? I always attend parent/teacher conf. I have very wide open communication with both teacher and my kids, so why do I the parent have to get permission to take my kids out of school for a vacation, If they were sick alot or constantly missing days of school then that would be one thing but last year Alex got a perfect attendance award. (when he is 37 years old do you think he will remember getting that award?) anyways I, as a parent am afraid of the consequences towards my kids if I get "nasty" they could even call them truant (sp?) and I did think about calling them in sick but I would need a doctor's note
oh well tooooooo bad we are going to disney in......... TTFN, Jacki:)

I argree!!!!
I do argree that school is important, even more now than when I was growing up.The boys (12 & 9) are fine students and last year Leonardo missed one day and Danny missed four for illness. Unlike myself, they both like school and look forward to it, holy smokes!!!! But I believe you have to seize the day! It is such a wacky world out there nowadays you just don't know whats going to happen. So even if DW is a BIG chicken, I will deal with the schools. We are all pumped up and ready to go!!!!!
