No Adults allowed in Disney Costumes at MNSSHP?!?

I just got off the phone with Disney about MNSSHP.

The CM told me that adults are not allowed to wear scary costumes, masks, face paint or DISNEY COSTUMES!

She said that adults (that are not CM's) when in Disney character costumes are mistaken for CM's and people approach them for autographs pictures etc and that Disney does not like this because they can't control the interaction.

She told me that if an adult comes to the gate dressed in a Disney costume that they would be turned away. The guidelines that came with my tickets said nothing about no adults in Disney costumes!

Can someone else call and see if they get this same info?

Thanks!

I called back...

I thought maybe different CM - different answer, but was told the same thing.

The cm put me on hold to talk to a supervisor and then came back with the same thing I had been told before, no adults in Disney costumes.

Because it's bothering me, I called again...

and this time the CM checked with her supervisor, came back and said that adults are not supposed to dress up at all! She said the reason was 9/11, that security needs to be tighter and with adults in costume they can't be screened as well.

Help! Who knows the real answer to this question - Can adults dress up for MNSSHP? Can adults go as Disney Characters?

Mickey? Anybody?

This is really weird!! But,the more I think of it,when you consider that there are upwards of 50,000 cast members employed at WDW,then you are bound to get 2 different snswers to the same questions. My suggestion is to call back, only this time tape-record the conversation and bring it with you when you go to the party to at least have proof of what you are told.

We went post 9/11... actually Oct. 2001 and there were tons of adults in Disney costumes. They said nothing to them then. I'd think if there were a restriction they would be required to put it in writing on the back of the ticket/card or in a letter of some sort when they mail the tickets to you.

I've seen photos from this event and there are guests in costume. I also found this on a site (www.goflorida.about.com)describing the event:

Family-friendly tricks, treats, and surprises await guests this Halloween season at Walt Disney World Resort. Those who dare enter the realm of fluttering bats, abandoned hotels and headless horsemen, are guaranteed a spine-tingling, goose-bump-provoking good time.
The ever popular Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom will get you in the "spirit." The special-ticket party lasts from 7:00 p.m. to midnight on seven very special evenings and features "Mickey's Boo-To-You" Halloween parade down Main Street, U.S.A., special nighttime showings of "Cinderella's Surprise Celebration," a spooky appearance by the Headless Horseman, and Halloween "Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks. Kids of all ages can trick-or-treat throughout the park, get their faces painted and fortunes told and show off their costumes in special kid-friendly "Mous-Ka-Rade" parties.

As a amtter of fact every site I've checked regarding this event encourages dressing up in coustume. The whole idea of the event is to go "Trick or treating" in the Magic Kingdom! information.

Why don't you try emailing them on the official website?

If there is a 9-11 rationale behind it, you'll get all that spelled out to you in a reply.

Plus you'll have the piece of paper from the official "go" Disney address (if they say it's fine to come in costume) to take with you in case someone hassles you at the park.

I think it's illegal to tape a telephone conversation unless you let the person know that you're doing it -- and if a CM agrees to let you do it, they aren't going to be too thrilled with you.

All I will say is that I have been working on my Hook costume for a month, and we were told that everyone is welcome to dress up. With the exception of masks and "un tasteful" costumes, they encourage costumes.

We will be at the Oct 26th party ...hopefully we will have some DC ers going before to fill me in.

ALSO*** the Disney Magizine just did a small story picturing 3 or 4 adult sisters dressed as Fairy Godmothers!

Sorry, I cannot find anything official that states anything about adult costumes. The only thing I can find is guidelines for kids costumes.

Personally, I wouldn't want to be mistaken as a cast member. Who wants to pay $30 and then be followed around by hundreds of kids all night thinking you are a character. I would say if you are dressed up, but not to the extent of that you might possibly be mistaken, then great, and have a wonderful time.

Isn't that part of the party experience. Who pays thirty dollars to attend this event, and just go on attractions. I think if you have a great costume, and kids wanna get pictures, that even more fun. Put it this way, if people are going through the trouble to put together a great costume, they want to enjoy and be enjoyed...not just go on It's a Small World...one more time.
Have fun to all the adults dressing up!

I went to the party Oct 31, 2002 and saw many adults dressed up. Although, I didn't dress up but my kids did.
