Epcot beginner

Ok all lay it on me. For someone who is an Epcot "beginner" what do you suggest for me and my nine year old daughter? I think we may actually spend a day there this trip. The last one we hung at MGM riding RnR the whole time. Hey! you can do these things when you have been there many times and have every intention of going back. Plus that's what happens when you throw the plans and PS's out the window and let a eight year old handle the planning. It WAS fun....So what do you all say?

If you're a RnR fan, you'll want to make Epcot's newest attraction, Mission: Space, your first stop. Not that Mission: Space is a roller-coaster, but it's the most unique thrill ride you've ever been on.

This is my first post to DisneyCentral... Please forgive if any wrong doings.... I live in Florida so I go to Disney as much a posible...:) EPCOT is my favorite park. My child is grown now. But I think that a 9 year old would love it too. You will have to ride Mission Space for sure.... and Test Track. I am not sure how interesting the Land is for a 9yo but I love riding the boat through the land. Thanks for your patients:D

How I envy you JM, basking in the Florida sunshine, no doubt a stones throw away from the magic, as I look outside my rain drenched window, 8 hours fly time away in good old blighty. Boo Hoo ! Don't suppose you have a spare room for a family of 3 He He !!

Epcot is actually my favourite park, not that my DW agrees but it's lovely just meandering through the world show case digesting the colours and sights as they blend seamlessly together. 'Off Kilter' a band between Canada & the UK are well worth a visit. I have watched them a few times now and they are more than entertaining and pretty much a permanent fixture to the park.

I havn't been fortunate enough to catch the latest addition to the park 'Mission Space' but it sounds fantastic ! Test Track is a must for the kids but being that this is one of the main attractions within Epcot, queues are long, so pick up that FP as soon a you can.

The land is a beautiful place not just for the quaint little boat ride but also for the Garden Grill Restaurant. Mickey & friends are all there but beware, Chip & Dale are very mischevious but quite hilarious!! Epcot is a wonderful place and as I type I can hear the World Music chanting out over the evening parade with the drummers beating there rotating drums and the butterflies spreading there wonderful colours. Sigh....... Have a wonderful time.

We love Epcot - on the short list for my kids is:

Test Track
Innoventions (esp. East)
Spaceship Earth
Character Bus (and getting autographs)
Watching Off Kilter and British Invasion
Doing the Kidcots
Ice Station Cool
Imagination Pavillion
Ice Cream Social at the Garden Grill
Making masks at the Kidcots

Aren't you going in October/November? The Food and Wine Festival starts on the 18th, and it's supposed to be fabulous. There are quite a few kid activities mine would like to do.

Both of my kids (and my sisters 9 year old twins) LOVE Epcot,
here is a list of my kids favorites:

#1) Test Track
#2) Jouney into your Imagination
#3) Universe of Energy (very cool!)
#4) Spaceship Earth
#5) The Land (food rocks, circle of life, and living with the Land)

They also enjoyed the following:
Maelstrom (viking ship in Norway)
River of Time (boat ride in Mexico)
Cool Ice Station (to cool off!!)
EPCoT stoytellers (flex feature on package)
Honey I shrunk the Audience
Innoventions

We usually spend at least 2 days at EPCoT and still don't make it to everything...Be sure to stay for Illuminations!! Also, look for the "glittery" sidewalks after dark (in Future World)....they are so neat!

Well you can't do EPCOT without doing Spaceship Earth. Ellen's Energy Adventure is very cool, Test Track is a given, Maelstrom is a big fun, The River of Time in the Mexico Pavillion is like a mini IASW and is kinda cool. Honey I Shrunk the Audiance is a great 3d, but too intense for most very small children. And of course the fireworks in the world showcase are exceptional. I've not done Mission:Space yet and am unsure if I will or not this year.

I enjoy the "boat ride" aka Living With The Land, in the Land Pavilion, but part of that is the fact that it is a chance to get off my feet for a few minutes LOL. I also enjoy the Living Sea however my DD (13) is bored with that one.

The Beatles tribute band that I saw a few years back was amazing and Off-Kilter is flat out fun to listen to.

Enjoy,
-harry

I am going from January 30 - February 3rd. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. It's about time we get to that park. Before, we went a high peak times and it took us forever to see the other three parks. Now, that we have done most of it, I think we are going to hit our favorites at each and spend sometime getting to know Epcot. If not, there are many more trips for us to di it. Thanks again all for the suggestions.

I agree, watching the entertainment in all the countries is entertaining (but my fave is Off Kilter, even though all I have is some footage dad shot, and their three CD's)....your daughter might think the entertainment in some countries sound weird, but after she hears them, she'll think they're great! (take it from a 15 year old girl who is mad because she has to wait for December to actually see Off Kilter)

Hope this helps

Epcot and MGM are my favorites! I am so looking forward to really exploring the countries this trip. I have to admit my kids were never thrilled with spending much time in the WS but they liked the other part as well as any park. Test Track is fantastic ! Don't miss it. You should be able to do everything in one day or less in the time that you are going.

Yzma - has she been to their fan site? it's at http://www.offkilter.net/ I love their sound clips.

Dana - another artisan I forgot to suggest are the chinese acrobats, and Miyuki, the taffy maker in Japan. OK, so two artisans.. I could go on... LOL! You're going to have a blast.
