Off Kilter's Celtic Armadillo. Any good?

Sorry, wasn't sure wether to put this thread here or in the Mouse Trap....

I was wondering if anyone had bought/heard the third album from Epcot's own barmy bagpipers, Off Kilter. I bought the first 2 soon as they'd finished playing at my first (and so far only) viewing of their unique show. Now that the third one is out, I was wondering what people's thoughts were? Is it as good as the first two?

Thanks for your musical musings...

CM:)

I have it! (well it's technically dad's but let's not get technical;)) and I think it's great! The mixture of bagpipes and singing gets more complex. I'll go through a song by song review.

1. Irish Rover: A fun traditional. Sort of like the Mary Mac of the CD (except they don't sing quite as fast!:D)

2. Nothing Changes: An original song that is really great. It doesn't feature bagpipes, it features an irish flute type thing (can't remember the exact name because I've misplaced the CD case)

3. Ode To a Zeta: Opening for Here I Stand that features some great guitar!

4. Here I Stand: A great original that shows that bagpipes can keep up with the other instruments! (even though Off Kilter proves that everytime they play!)

5. Alive: A great feel good song. One of my favorites!

6. Goodbye Muisen Durkin (spelling? haha): Another fun traditional with that great twist!

7. Amazing Grace Intro: Bagpipes only. Shows good talent, but it's a tad slow for me

8. Amazing Grace: LOVE this song. Bet you've heard it if you've seen them live.

9. Like You: Quite possibly my favorite song on the CD. A great original that is a love song that isn't all mushy!

10. Can't remember the name : The opener for Follow Me To Carlow

11. Follow Me Up To Carlow: A great traditional, that sounds a bit like Here I Stand, but it's still great!

12. Dark Island: A traditional that makes my cry evertime I hear it. A VERY moving song.

I would say BUY it! The fact that 9 out of 12 songs feature them singing is a big plus for me (although I've never seen them live, so I don't even know who sings :( ) I did notice that the songs are starting to sound like they are appealing to a younger generation as well as the grown-up one (sounds a bit better than old, which was the other word I thought of.

Hope that helps:
Sarah (who has a small crush on Jamie and Mark  )

EXcitement is building more day by day. Where is Off Kilter? My husband and I love Celtic music. Before with kids they would never stop and listen to anything going on, except some of the artisians in Japan, but I don't want to miss this!

YzmaPapa....thank you so much for that excellent summary. Definitely going to get the album now (only question is..do I buy it now and pay the international postage, or do I wait til I'm there - can anyone confirm that the 3rd album is for sale at the Canadian pavilion?). Sounds like it's up to their usual standard then.

Saw their whole show once, and got the full thing on video. I think I watch it more than some of my bought DVDs! They didn't play Amazing Grace, but they did play your track 6 listing...brilliant.

LRTJS (hi!)...Off Kilter can be found at the stage at the Canadian Pavilion, and do several sets a day, each lasting about 20 minutes and at least 4 songs. Think Celtic rock...maybe Big Country but with a huge sense of humour! They are very, very good. Like I said, I'd never heard of them, saw them once in Sep02, immediately spent $40 on their first 2 CDs...

Now, where's that credit card...?

Once again Cowboy Mickey rides to the rescue! You have been a big help in my trip preparations. Canada is probably the country I have spent the least amount of time in but that will change. I will definitely get a schedule and hear this group.

Celtic Armadillo

Hey Cowboy!
Just got back from a WONDERFUL weekend at WDW and I bought Off Kilter's Celtic Armadillo at the Canadian pavillion. LOVE IT! I always enjoy seeing them live, but this is the first and only CD I've purchased. I highly recommend it!

Off Kilter is perhaps the most enjoyable musical group performing at WDW. The fact that none of the group is actually Canadian and bagpiper Jamie Holton is from Daytona Beach only adds to their off-kilter charm.

You can learn more about the group by going to the Off Kilter Web site. The Web site is a little outdated in places but you can buy all three CDs there as well as other merchandise. There's also an Off Kilter fan club that you can join. Pretty neat stuff, eh?

LRTJS,

If you haven't spent much time around Canada pavillion, then let me give you a hint.

Before you sit down for the Off Kilter show, stop by the kiosk that serves us the Beaver Tails. I don't think they open until after 3 in the afternoon. A beaver tail is a piece of wheat flat bread, shaped, of course, like a beaver tail! The best part, is you have a choice of toppings. I have the chocolat hazelnut with powdered sugar. Oh my,........to die for.

Pick one up before the show and munch on it and enjoy the guys!

:laugh

The Off Kilter band members may not be Canadian, but their Celtic-Rock-Bagpipe is purely Canadian. We have many similar bands like this across the land. No summer festival is without them and they're all great!

I am looking forward to eating Beaver
Tails while "Off Kilter" plays. I am adding something new to my list every day.

Linda-Did you see my post asking questions about Beaver Tails?

I will be exploring Canada and watching the movie which I don't think I have seen in 10 years! There is something good to be said about going without kids!
