Magical Gatherings Ad Campaign

Look for a new series of TV ads touting WDW's new "Magical Gatherings" to hit national airwaves beginning early next month. Disney is trying to grow a new line of business around groups of families and friends who vacation together. Think family reunions, Disney Central Meet and Greets and the like.

Disney plans to offer special dinners and shows to the Magical Gatherings groups. The eligible groups are expected to range in size anywhere from 8 to 30 people. According to a WDW person I spoke with, the catch is that all members of the group must stay at a Disney resort.

Banners are already up on streetlamps throughout the parks that simply say "Magical Gatherings," with no further explanation.

The last time Disney tried to grow its business with such a simple idea was 13 years ago when someone had the bright idea to let people get married at WDW. The idea of WDW being a wedding destination has become so popular that some 2,000 couples a year spring for a Disney wedding.

Any idea if there will be any perks for groups that already have trips planned?

Not sure, but since the program hasn't officially started yet I'd say only bookings made especially for Magical Gatherings would apply. I guess, though, once the details are available and if you found them to your liking you could always cancel and rebook. Just a thought.

This sonds like a great thing for us! Mickey,can we cancel and then rebook if the new campaign is to our liking?

This could be EXCELLENT news for our Meet & Greet!

The deal might be so great, that we wouldn't need to book 10 rooms, I'm sure 9 would qualify!;)

Have you guys heard of the Mega Mouse Meet? I read about it on www.mousesavers.com and just thought it was interesting. I'd never heard of it before. But I think I'm honestly more excited about OUR meet n' greet, since it's so personal and just for DC people. Something "mega" just seems too chaotic, and I'm really only interested in meeting people I know--like you guys! :D

I saw the commercial for the first time this morning,and it really didn't give any info on what the magical gatherings are about except to call the regular Disney number.
