I love MGM. . .
Hi everyone,
I love MGM but I have never been to the Universal movie park. How does it compare. Is it worth going or does MGM outshine it. If Universal is the same type of thing I might as stick with MGM. I have no desire to go to Universal's other park, but I was curious about the movie park. Thanks.:) :) :) I love that little guy. |

I've been to Universal and wouldn't spend the $ or the time to go back (unless I were in California, that Universal is pretty good). I don't even like the layout of the park (ok, maybe I'm a little prejudice to WDW, but that's how I feel). We spent 2 full days in MGM in Oct and had plenty of fun. Hope that helps.

I have always thought Universal to be better than MGM, with the exceptions of Tower of Terror and Fantasmic!
However, what is it that you like at MGM so much, that could make a big difference as to whether you will like Universal or not. Universal definitely has a "grown up" feel to it, so consider that as well. If possible wait until the Mummy Ride opens to visit, if you like those types of rides.

I agree that Univ. has more of a grown up feel (maybe that's why I'm not crazy about it, I'm still a kid at heart, lol). I've been to US Hollywood and loved it, so go figure. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is that I don't like about it, I just know I like MGM a lot better. I guess it's a matter of personal preference.

Well, I have to say that I've always enjoyed my visits to Universal. It doesn't have the Disney magic, but it definitely has some great rides. (Men in Black, ET, Spiderman). The themeing at Islands of Adventure is really eye-catching. I guess it depends a lot on the age of the people in your group. Teenagers really like this park. If you have the time, I'd certainly give it a try. If you don't think you can spare the time and you have small children, then stick to MGM. But if small children aren't a consideration, do Universal. Sometimes a bit of a break from Disney can be a good thing! (Yikes, am I in trouble for saying that?):nervous

Mike, MGM is a lot more show oriented. The restaurants at MGM are superior imho. But Universal has more current movie attractions.

I have only been to Universal in CA, so maybe I shouldn't be responding...but this is how I feel...
We did Universal and Six Flags Magic Mountain together in one trip. That was fun, it was a wonderful trip...but I would not have paired it with Disney. I think the parks (except maybe Six Flags) would have left something to be desired if we did them in the same trip as Disney. They make good seperate trips, though!! I don't really know about Universal in Orlando, but I do know that every time I've thought about adding a Universal excursion to my WDW trip, I end up changing my mind. I'd rather stay insulated in Disney Magic for the whole trip! I loved both US and SFMM, but I found myself doing the routine "Disney-check" on all attractions...like Jurassic Park at US! I was so traumatized when I could see all of the T-Rex's joints and screws, and when the waterfall wasn't working and you'd see the dinosaur WAY before you were supposed to...:laugh Disney is a LOT more concerned about keeping things spotless! And once you get used to that, you'll NEVER go back!!!! ![]()
