terror alert

As most of you know, the terror alert has been raised to HIGH (orange). With my disney trip being in less than two weeks, should i anticipate any changes security or anything along those lines when i go to DW?

I think you will be fine at WDW. The bag search lines will be a tad more thorough, but that will be the most noticable. I am sure much will be going on behind the scenes.

My opinion, nothing more:)

Other than longer lines as TD says, you shouldn't be impacted much. Disney has a phenomenal behind-the-scenes security system.

If there is any extra security measures being taken at WDW, they are so efficient you will barely be able to tell. They continue to be all about the magic....thank goodness for us.

We were there when they raised the Alert Status, and to be honest did not notice any difference to security at the Parks or Resorts. That is not to say of course that the security wasn't modified, it was just kept invisible as much as possible to the Guests. Of course, the gate bag searches continued, with some guards being more thorough than others. There did appear to possibly be an increase in the Disney Security personnel who patrol within the parks, but that could also be due to the fact that the number of Guests in the Parks increased dramatically whilst during our stay.

The no-fly zone over WDW continues as well.

If you've not left already, have a great trip! :)

The security at the casinos in AC last night was off the hook. I can't ever remember seeing that much "obvious" security ever and I go there every other year for New Year's. It will be a great relief to go to WDW where you know there is tons of security, but you see no changes. I know security is important and am grateful for the efforts made, but isn't it nice when you just feel safe without having to *see* guys with hand guns and walkies running from one place to the next? sigh...can't wait for my trip.

The bag searches are pretty much hit-and miss,Theresa. Each guard searches differently. I have had someone request that I take things out of my backpack, and the next time I go through they just glance very cursorily. As for the no-fly-zone over WDW,last night,as my mother and I were waiting for Fantasmic to start(full report in trip report forum),we saw this helicopter hover constantly,as well as planes over Disney,so I don't know if there WAS a no-fly-zone over Disney.

well as for security changes there are some that kids should be prepared for before arriving. the first one is Orlando airport does require random passengers to remove thier shoes to be checked for explosives, it doesn't matter if its a 3 year old or a 45 year old. here's the thing if you get a good seat at one of the firework shows in disney you MAY get some dust on your shoes that will set off the machine, if this is the case normally they inspect them and might call a supervisor over or something like this. this could make a kid scared, nervous, etc... so it might be a good idea to know of it and let them know of it.
secondly when the terror level is at orange occasionally the military flies fighter jets over wdw they normally stay out of site of the parks, but if you see them there is no need to panic. I can tell you about 6 months after 911 2 fighter jets dlew over my house in CT at speed like they were going somewhere quick and low and it scared me pretty good. turns out a private pilot was having problems with some type of steering viotlated a no fly zone over a nuclear reactor, everything worked out fine, so just be aware of that.

as for dinsey being a no fly zone they used to be. they may be again but I haven't heard that And I'm at the airport often and know a few pilots down there so I'll check next time I'm there. before the code orange all disney prop with the exception of the MK was normal flight hieght (ie whatever the normal regulation is for that area) the Magic kingdom is 3,000 ft for 3 miles out from the center of the park. this includes the wdw airstrip.

oh and disney does bring in extra law enforcement officers at times such as high crowds and maybe when the terror level changes. they also have undercover security officers and probly undercover sherriffs on site as well. as for changes now at the parks I haven't noticed anything.

.

Philadelphia requires ALL passengers to remove their shoes while going through the metal detectors (at least they did when I flew to Tampa in October). I bought zipper sneakers for my daughter to wear and I have MANY shoes that slip off easy. It's faster for the airport security if you are prepared for these necessary checks. Just a suggestion....
