Retro-WDW

OK, here's your chance to share all those great moments at WDW gone by.

Maybe you remember buying tickets for the rides...

or riding the monorail around EPCOT before it was open...

Do you have fond memories of Discovery Island or River Country?

Perhaps you were one of the lucky few to ride the train at Fort Wilderness.

Well this is the place to share all cherished but long gone experiences and rides with both the Disney newbies who are still learning or the veteran Disneyholics who just love to reminiscence.

From Mickey's Birthdayland to Magic Journeys and Disney Inn to Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village share all your experiences no longer with us today.

I laugh every time I think about the tune "If You Had Wings, had wings, had wings, had wings, had wings, had wings, had wings, had wings......did it ever end? I loved that attraction though!!

Well, as advanced and realistic as most Disney Attractions seem to a child, Mission to Mars never really fooled my young mind. It seemed you were in a room with a couple neat shaped tvs and rumbling seats.

Of course, now Malls are starting to charge extra fees to sit in a chair that rumbles. :laugh

Now Dreamflight and If you had Wings was cool. Especially that one room that Buzz Still uses. It gave you a funny sensation.

Ohhh, I'm probably showing my age here, but I made my debut in the world the same year as WDW did and have visited at least once a decade ...... sooo....

......I remember my mother having to buy extra tickets back in 1979 so I could torture my parents with yet ANOTHER trip on "It's a small world...".. my memories are a little fuzzy (I was very young back then), but wasn't it something like you got so many tickets with the admission price, and anything above that was extra????

.... If You Had Wings was my very favourite attraction back on that first trip - nothing that has been in that location since has compared to my rosy memories. Whether I'd still think the same now is a different story.

......The REAL Discovery Island.... I remember it well. On my most recent trip, I got very annoyed when I overheard some guy at the Wilderness Lodge tell his wife not to be silly, cause Discovery Island is over at the Animal Kingdom, not in Bay Lake...(fortunately, she knew what she was talking about and put him right herself...)

....I can just about remember the old shopping village - didn't the building which is now the pin trading shop used to be a sort of gallery area where artists would work or display????

One of these days, I must "persuade" my parents to go up into that very large attic of theirs and find out where all the old photographs are....

Something that I always loved and still miss was the street scene on WOM .. there was always so much going on, that no matter how many times you rode WOM you would notice something new.

Discovery Island now looks to be very overgrown, looks like Disney are currently letting it just "return to nature". The buildings appear to be pretty much still there, and obviously the boat dock will be kept in good condition for any maintenance crews. In places you can make out the path around the shore, but it's very overgrown.

What surprised me was that the bird netting was still up, although there appeared to be big holes in it - I'm surprised because I thought it would be fairly easy for birds to get accidentally caught up in the netting. There weremassive amounts of birds on the island, that we could see from the launch between WL and CR.

Never got a chance to visit it myself, unfortunately.

I miss the REAL figment!! O.k., so I don't remember much about him, but he was so cute and there was that line about him being "just a figment of your imagination." :)

I miss the 2000 or so version of the presidents. They never programmed all the movements back in, and I don't know why they recently decided to re-arrange them and delete more programming! It's becoming closer to being as boring as people (and Iago) say it is.

I miss Horizons because all I remember was being disappointed at the end, and I LOVE audio animatronic characters so I'd love to spend a few dozen rides on it. :(

My favorite attraction was the Mickey Mouse Revue. They moved it to Tokyo Disneyland when they opened. And my most favorite parade is the Main Street Electrical Parade. It belongs on Main Street, not the pathways in California Adventure! :)

Well, this isn't really retro, but on our last trip we did get to enjoy
~The Diamond Horseshoe Saloon Revue..very funny, good old western show.
~ The Legend of the Lion King puppet/stage show, replaced by Philharmagic, I am so psyched to see it!
~The Hunchback of Notre Dame Stage show at MGM, this was really a great show, even though I didn't care for the movie too much.
~ The H&V character Breakfast with "Starlett Minnie", this was one of our faves and I am going to miss it.

So glad we did them then, because 3 years later, they're all gone.

I am looking very forward to all that is new too though.;)
