Motion Sickness

Question for anyone......

My husband gets motion sickness from the simulator rides. We went on Body Wars when they were still testing it in 10/89. Since then he really can't do simulators.

Does anyone know if the wristbands, patches or medications would help him so he could go on the rides and it not bother him??

We're taking our 8 yo son for the first time. He is a coaster nut and we think he'll like the simulator type rides too. Don't want dad to be sick our entire trip.

Thanks

My husband is just the same. Ditto the wrist bands. He tried taking dramamine, but this guy passes out on baby Tylenol:laugh We all want to try Mission: Space, but I'm dreading the outcome. I think if you're prone to motion sickness, there's not too much out there to cure it. Guess you could try Gravol.

I've heard the spice ginger helps. I know it helps with up-set stomachs. I have a paper somewhere that you can order a sucker (lollypop) that is supposed to help with motion sickness for kids, I'm sure that it would help with adults too. If you want I can find it and send you the information but from what I remember they might be kind of expensive (12 suckers for $15???) If all else fails I use the less-drowsy dramimine(sp?).

Although I'm not prone to motion sickness, my wife (who is) has found great success with a medication called meclazine. It's marketed under the brand Bonine, which can be obtained from your pharmacy without a prescription. You don't need a prescription, but it's not sold over-the-counter. Just ask the pharmacist and they should be able to get you some.

Meclazine is the medication in non-drowsy Dramamine, but it's a lot more expensive to buy it that way than to ask the pharmacist for Bonine.

I skip those rides

I just don't bother going on those rides which cause motion sickness. Last August I received advanced passes for Mission Space from the Fast Pass machine and I gave them away. My thoughts are summed up like this: "Why bother getting sick when I am on vacation and paying so much $$? It just doesn't make sense to me."

Walgreens sells it up over the counter here, as does Walmart & Rite Aid. I swear by the stuff. Caution giving it to small children though, as I think it's a long process time for your liver.

I discovered it on the Disney Cruise, when our Cabin Steward brought it up for me fom the front desk - saved our trip. (packaged under the name Sea Calm)

And as always, before taking any drug, do consult your Doctor.

Rafikiman gets motion sick on all those simulator rides & the teacups & the carousal. (He can do RnR & ToT with no problems though...good thing!!!) In Oct he wanted to do Mission to Mars so bad so he took a dramamine. He was fine for the ride, & then later on in the afternoon started feeling bad. He was fine by later in the night. That same trip we did a cruise so he took a dramamine as soon as he got on the ship. A few hours later he started feeling bad again so he didn't take another one the whole trip & he was fine (except for feeling like he was still on the ship for a week after the cruise!). Just be warned that sometimes the cure is worse than the illness!!!

I get motion sickness too. I took Dramamine for MS once and it really helped me. NOTHING helps for the tea cups, I can't even look at them. I rode MS without the Dramamine and felt icky for about an hour but with it I was fine. I think that or the other medication mentioned is worth a try. Everyone should at least TRY mission space once it is awesome!!

I have used the Transderm Scop patch. These patches you place behind one of your ears I think 3 hours prior to your departure. I have used these everytime I have gone and have no problems. I get really sick even traveling in a car. You only have to replace these patches every three days. I got a box of 4 in a package with only my copay of $20.00. You do have to get these from your family doctor. Hope this helps.

Hiner, tell your husband to be careful if riding Mission Space at Epcot, he can get pretty dizzy in there.

Ciao,
Alfredo

My family calls me the "queen of motion sickness". I have to even take medication when I fly. So, I would say why chance it. Sometimes , what works for one, will not work for another. :) JOANN

Bonine has always worked for me. I take it when i fly. It makes me a little tired and hungry.

Alfredo,

We saw the WDW Thrill Ride special on Discovery about 2 wks ago and he said he probably won't go on MS. The look on the one girl's face completely spooked him. I'm gonna leave it up to him. Although, we did ride the Rockin Roller Coaster 3 times the last time we went. I even felt sick by the 3rd time and I'm not a roller coaster person.

See ya,
Kim
