Electric Scooters

My bosses parents are in their mid 80's and have decided to go to WDW with the gang in February.

They are both going to be renting Electric scooters for the entire week and I was wondering how that will work on the buses. Will the buses accomidate 2 scooters at a time? I would hate for them to be spilt up on the buses every trip to the parks.

I was also worried about where they would park them at the resort so I called the AKL front desk and was told that they could keep the scooters in the hall if there was not enough room in their hotel room for both of them.

The buses accomodate 2 wheelchairs/scooters.

The scooters must be plugged in each night to recharge the battery. How many rooms do they have at the AKL? One scooter will easily fit in a room, so if they have 2 rooms, they won't have a problem. If not, they could overnight "park" one of the scooters at Bell Services where they will be able to plug into an electrical outlet.

just a note disney had a accident with a electric scooter boarding a bus and thats more than disney will say. anyhow they now require all electric scooters boarding low floor busses to back up the ramp going in and drive out. if you choose you can request a lift equiped buss where you can go ethier way. the busses that have ramps are the low floor busses. I have np pictures of a disney low floor.

Even on lift-equipped buses, scooters are required to back onto the lift.

really hadn't heard that one yet but I guess now that I think of it the last few times they have always backed on. I'd imagine it still would be easier to back on to a lift equiped bus than a ramp bus if you aren't familiar with the scooter though. thanks for the info jmouse

We stayed at the AKL twice in 2002 and my mom rented a scooter both times. She plugged it in by the sinks in the bathroom area. There is also room over by the balcony. Yes it will make things crowded in the room but the scooters will be invaluable during the stay. Getting around AKL is easy with a scooter. Hope they have a great trip!

electric wheelchairs also have to be backed in to the busses. One thing I hope .. all busses are now equiped for w/c and EVC's because I know last August they were not.

There are still some non-equipped buses out there as of 2 weeks ago!

Have they considered renting a handicap van for the time they are there? THey could put both scooters in themselves and not have to worry about the buses. They could also park at the front of each park which is just as close as the bus stops. Parking is free to those staying on property too!

I hesitate to drop this little rain cloud as well but if they take two scooters on the DW buses you may want to prepare them for some dirty looks and impertinent comments. Some people get a bit cranky waiting for the scooters to load and may become rude. WE know those aren't real Disney people! You could suggest they do the buses at off times to minimize the crabbiness of others aimed at two older people who don't deserve it.

one scooter ..or at least one electric wheelchair can have the same effect. your right we dont deserve the stares and rude remarks. I will not drive my van. I dont want to. I want to use Disney Transportation when I am there. This happens on the monorail too ..it also happens in lines.

I am so sorry! When I find myself becoming anxious about getting on the bus because of a hold up being scooter, wheelchair or stroller, I remind myself this is Disney and another one will be along soon. I also remind myself I can still walk but if the day comes I can't, I don't want the crankiness of others keep me from the happiest place on earth!

We get nasty remarks too. and believe me if my DH could walk he would...It is much faster and alot easier than waiting to get on the bus.. I try very hard to be patient and think of the day that I will need assistants... :heart :) :heart
