Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon

o.k. I have a new question. We have never been to either of the water parks. Since we will have an UPH this year. We are going to try one or both water parks.

Here's the problem and questions. My kids can't swim. My DD is 48" tall and my DS is 54" tall. Are there any slides/attractions that we should stay away from? Is there a pool at the end of each slide? Do they supply a life jacket for kids? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

There are shallow pools at the ends of each water slide (can't remember if there are any deep enough to stay away from, but there are height restrictions posted) You can borrow a life jacket, but don't know where or how much.

The only pool I can think of to stay immediately away from is the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon - the pull is *very* strong and you don't know when it's going to happen (it is timeable, but who pays attention to time at a waterpark? LOL!) There is a kiddie area to the wave pool, with tame waterslides and such, just to get the experience of it.

My son (13, taller than me, how pathetic) said he liked Typhoon Lagoon much better. He surfs, so is kinda biased to start with, but I make him play with his little sister (6, but also tall for her age) and he said the TL kids area is better than the BB kids area. In case you wanted to know what a mini-teen's input was.

I have been to both water parks and really enjoyed TL better. I thought is was much prettier and I really loved the snorkeling! If you like high water slides (the tallest one in the US) you might would rather go to BB. I just thought the atmosphere at TL was so much nicer and the lazy river part was so relaxing. It has been over 5 years since I have been to either and BB had just opened when I went so it might be better now!;)

We've been to both also. I like TL for the themeing and I found it more relaxing. BB is fun but I didn't care for the themeing as much and the wave pool wasn't as good as TL. That being said TL's wave pool can be hard on smaller kids so you have to be careful it gets pretty rough. Make sure you bring towels (from the hotel) with you because they charge you for towels - and they are the same towels you have in your hotel. It's only a dollar per towel. For me it wasn't the $5 for towels that bothered me it was the wait in the line to get them.

Thanks for the replies. We are really looking forward to visting one or both of these parks. I have never been to a water park.

I still need to know something though. Since neither of my kids can swim, how much can we do there? Can they safely go down the slides?

Jeff,

I would suggest TL then. They could do the snorkling and the lazy river and the wave pool because it very shallow at places. As far as the slides you go down first and then be there to catch them when the come off the slide. I did this during our first visit with Paulie (he just turned 5) he swam but not that great so I waited at the bottom for him. I have to say if it wern't for my DS I would skip the water parks. I find the pool (POR has a really cool one) more fun. At the BC pool they have a lazy river, many shallow areas, beach area, and everyday a CM came out and played and taught the kids water polo it was great!!

o.k. Thanks!! I was just looking at the Disney.com site. They show a lot of family tube rides at Blizzard Beach. They look fun and don't seem to require swimming abilities.

Here we are talking about swimming and it is below freezing outside!! Whaaa!!! The pictures of BB and TL are giving me shivers!!!

Jeff, we LOVED Blizzard Beach, we did all the family rides, and had a blast. The Teamboat Springs was so much fun! Your kids would LOVE the Ski Patrol training camp.

Do you have the Sing Along Video titled "Beach Party at WDW?" They show quite a bit of Blizzard Beach in it.

We are hoping it will get hot enough in Feb to go back, I was really surprised at how much fun we ALL had there, it was great. :D :)

Okay, is that what I think it is in that picture???

I have a small monitor at school (14 inch:hmmm ) and I don't have a really clear view of the picture.

Steph,

Have you seen the movie Caddy Shack? In the movie someone throws a Baby Ruth candy bar in the swimming pool. Everyone screams and gets out of the pool. Bill Murry (the eccentric caddy) gets the candy bar out of the pool and proceeds to take a bite. Everyone cringes because they think it's "poop".

This is a screen shot from the movie!!!

I love that scene!!! But I don't think it would be fun to have the real thing happen!!

However, we were swimming one year and this three year old little boy got out of the pool and stood at the edge... I was thinking he was going to jump... but then he pulled down his trunks and all of the sudden the pool I WAS SWIMMING in became one big toilet!!! It was so funny... the mom did not notice anything until the entire pool was empting out... funny...
