Has anyone heard the dates for this years Star Wars Weekends? The DW site has them as select weekends in May & June but nothing specific. Just want to make any changes to my plans while I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks:) :) :)

Funny you should ask, skybug, as I'm anxiously awaiting the announcement as well, and noticed the same thing you did on the dw site. Interestingly they say May AND June this time, so maybe it won't be too nuts to return to Florida so soon after my next trip (in April). I hope they have some goodies in store this time, being that this is the penultimate celebration before the final movie blasts on the screen next year.
If they last until June, and if the June schedule looks appealing, I think I know when my next Disney trip, after my next Disney trip, will be. :)

Last year when we went, this was the site I would check for details on. Maybe when February's newsletter comes out it will show the dates....

A bit off-topic but is anyone planning on attending Celebration 3 in 2005?

We went to Celebration 2 in Indy and had the best time. We will be back in 2005 depending mostly on the location. I would love it WDW would host it but probably not very likely since they do the Star Wars Weekends.

Never been to the Celebrations, but my best friend since 4th grade has been making plans for us to go to the one next year since before they even announced one. He's planning on bringing his DD, who will be 7 and is just as big a fan as we are. I am anxious for the day she gets to visit MGM, for everything she likes is there in one place (Star Wars, Indy Jones, Barbie, Muppets, Beauty & Beast, Toy Story... the list goes on!).
She'd probably beat ANY of the kids on the lightsaber training thing they do at MGM!!!
I'm hoping they bring the Celebration to MGM for 2005, as it's the last movie- at least for now - and it's the biggest place everyone can meet at and still have fun doing it.
:)

geeman,

I was happy to see May and June on the DW site as well. I have a friend who is a cast member; She told me to plan for May weekends only. She also said that they only added the June weekends last time because the latest movie was coming out.

I too, hope to see some cool collectibles & souvineers. Post back here when you see an announcement. I'll do the same!!

May the force be with you!!:) :)

No problem, Mickaholic,
"Celebration" is the term used two times thus far for an officially sanctioned Star Wars related gathering, where the celebrities appear for talks, fans come from across the globe, etc.. It's sort of another (kinder) word for a convention. There have been 2, one for Episode 1 in 1999, one for Episode 2 in 2002. The final installment of the Star Wars trilogy is due next May, 2005, so we are anticipating a big deal to be made at the next "celebration".:)

Star Wars Celebrations 3

Rumor has it that SW Celebrations 3 will be in Indy again next year. It's going to be quite expensive for me next year, if I get to attend both the Celebrations and one of the SW Weekends. Celebrations is in April, typically, and from what I've been hearing the dates are April 22-24, 2005. They time it with the movie, which isn't supposed to be out until 2005. Remember, Ep2 just came out in 2002, and each one in the trilogy are released three years after the prior one--which brings up an interesting point about Ep3: it only falls 2 years after Ep2. Things to make you say "Hmmmmmmm!"

For any of you who are planning on making arrangements to go to Celebrations 3, there's supposed to be a big announcement in the next issue of Star Wars Insider. That's when there will be a mad dash to get hotel rooms and (if needed) car rentals. Plane tickets probably won't be necessary until closer to the trip date. Do they make flight arrangements a year and a half ahead of schedule?

Here's hoping that Harrison Ford will be at one of this year's SW Weekends in DW! If so, that's when I'm going to do whatever it takes to be there. I'd like to see Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill as well, but Han was always a favorite. Another person I'd like to see there would be Frank Oz. Wouldn't it be cool to get his autograph on a carded Yoda?

Well, sorry for the long read, but I thought someone might get something useful out of the info on Celebrations 3. I'll certainly be watching for the weekends update(s) coming soon for DW!

Thanks for the heads up, jedijson. I don't think I'll fly to both places. Hopefully they have it someplace else - I'm hoping NYC, of course, but there's always California. You'd get more stars that way.

I just missed Carrie Fisher at the last Star Wars Weekend I went to, but I did get to meet and greet David Prowse (Darth Vader), Jake Lloyd (young Anakin) and Jeremy Bullock (the original Boba Fett). I also go to meet Warwick Davis, the loveable Wicket the Ewok, and got to watch the MGM parade and handprint ceremony.

I'm not an autograph person, but you might get a kick out of hearing how I've met Mark Hamill and Saw Frank Oz give a presentation.
With Mark, it was - garsh- 10 years ago- he was making an appearance to promote a Batman animated movie, and showed up at the WB store. I expected to just see him speak - instead it was a meet a greet!!! We got to spend a few minutes chatting with him and getting our picture taken. Pretty memorable for me. :)

With Frank Oz, I had attended a Sci-Fi convention once because a lot of interesting folks were going to be there. Among them were Frank Oz and Rick Moranis, who were there to promote "Little Shop of Horrors", which was still in post-production. Mr. Oz went up and not only did he talk about portraying Yoda, but he also talked about the muppets and his roles as Miss Piggy, Bert, Cookie Monsters, Grover and Fozzie Bear. He was very entertaining.

Of course, Rick Moranis was a year or so away from starring in his Disney hit, "Honey I Shrunk the Kids".

And the creators of "Little Shop" (Alan Menken, Howard Ashman) were putting their touches on the movies that would save Disney:"The Little Mermaid", "Aladdin" and "Beauty and the Beast".

Ever notice how somehow everything relates back to Disney?!

:)

Since 1997, Walt Disney World has sponsored a series of special Star Wars Weekends in the Disney-MGM Studios theme park. Activities normally include celebrity appearances, as well as trivia contests and prize give-aways, Star Tours "ride-a-thons," and a Star Wars Cantina street party, complete with a live disc jockey.

During Star Wars Weekends, celebrities from all the Star Wars films are on hand for motorcades and star conversations, as well as autograph sessions. Actors featured over the years include Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Jake Lloyd (young Anakin Skywalker), David Prowse (Darth Vader), Kenny Baker (R2D2), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and Anthony Daniels (C3PO) among others. Lots of costumed characters, from Luke Skywalker and Queen Amidala to Ewoks and Jawas, can also be found milling about the park, with plenty of opportunities for Star Wars fans to meet and greet them.

Hey Jedi Jason, I can see that you are a big SW fan too. Cool!

I would love to go to both. Unfortunately time and money hold me back. We are going to WDW in the beginning of April due to my daughter being out of school for Spring Break, so I'll miss SW Weekends. It's probably a good thing though. I can only imagine that the crowds are terrible. :dazed

I've heard the same rumors (gotta love theforce.net) DH and I are thinking about booking a hotel room before the announcement just in case. We can always cancel or change the dates if need be. I really liked it being in Indy but would also like to see something new this time around.
