going for 3 days, AK a must?

I'm going for 3 days only(convention) and haven't been to Disney in about 13 years. I've heard that AK isn't that great for adults. Going May 8-14. I'd like to visit MK Monday, epcot, tues, MGm on sunday. but need advice about AK... also, i'm 29(no kids) is it worth it to get a Hopper pass Plus to visit Pleasure Island?
Thanks

Just my opinion, but my boyfriend (28) and I (24) were not too thrilled with animal kingdom when we went last september. No kids, just us, and we just didn't get a real kick out of it. The only exception would be DINOSAUR! SOO much fun, one of WDW best rides. Go to animal kingdom just for that ride, then hop to another park!:laugh Safari is ok, but honestly, the bronx zoo is better. Like I said, this is just my opinion, but i'd skip PI too. some of the resort lounges are a nice place to sit and have a few drinks and unwind. We aren't big "dancers/partiers" anyway, if that's your thing, go for it. have fun!

Welcome fellow Alabamian! If you get the Park Hopper Pass you can go to AK for a few hours if you want and check out Dinosaur and the Kali River Rapids and Safari. I think the Safari is a million times better than a zoo. But, if you don't want to stay you can hop on over to another park!

I agree with what has been said above. Dinosaur is an excellent ride, the river rapids are pretty cool too. However, usually after just one morning I'm ready for another park.

Welcome DisneyinAlabama...

I wouldn't miss AK for the world... I love it and have to make my family go. I agree that there are some awesome zoos out there, but the natural environments, the rides, the food and the shows make it a MUST for me. There are going to be lots of opinions on AK... I think its one of those either ya love it or ya don't things... kinda like Living Seas at EPCOT. I agree that a half day if you are trying to work in ALL of the parks would be plenty. We have did all four parks in two days last May believe it or not. We didn't come close to seeing everything, but we were happy with the trip. I think we split AK with EPCOT but my kids aren't as into EPCOT as some others might be and the trip was for them.

Glad to have you on the boards! Let us know if we can help you with ANYTHING!!!

I can take or leave AK. It's a nice park, but if you haven't been to WDW in 13 years, you will have many new things in store for you at the other parks along with some old favorites I'm sure you must have. Pleasure Island on the other hand, is something I wish I had the chance to do, but never get to. AK is mostly shows and of course animals. If these are not your thing, skip it and focus on the other three parks. Either way, AK can be seen very quickly and you can do most of it in a few hours if the crowds are light. I suggest going on disney.com and go under the section for "what's new", look at all the different things in each park, determine what YOU want to see and then make your decision that way. You can always go back and see the stuff you missed.

29, no kids?? Man, are you an excellent candidate for Pleasure Island. You MUST GET THE TO THE ADVENTURER's CLUB! (hope I made myself clear - hee hee! )

We love AK, and it's my MIL's favorite park (she goes there on her own) It's a great park to stroll in, relax, etc.

How about, going to AK early morning, doing the Killamanjaro Safari (excellent animal viewing), strolling over to the Festival of the Lion King (fabulous show), and then if you feel like it, stroll the park and see if there's anything else you want to explore. When you're ready, head on over to MGM studios, which I always find garrish and ugly first thing in the morning. Close out the day with Fantasmic at MGM, and you've covered two parks in one day.

I agree with Disney Anne, Animal Kingdom is a wonderful park but everyone's tastes are different. If you're not into the animals, I'd do the major attractions that others have already mentioned and then move on.

As for Pleasure Island, it's a great place to party. Don't miss it. You also might want to consider Jelly Rolls (a sing-along bar) and Atlantic Dance Hall, both at the Boardwalk, as alternatives.

If you are strictly rides, then go on the Safari and Dinosaur! (fantastic ride)

Skip Kali, it's like any Rapids ride at any park.

If you love animals, then you can go to the trails or skip the park totally, it's nice, but it is like other zoo habitats (just more expensively done).

If you are into shows, then go to Festival of the Lion King. One of the best shows at Disney.

Animal Kingdom is a wonderful park for people who have the time to fit it in... with limited days it is highly questionable.

AK is ok, Dinosaur is the best ride there, I would go over in the morning and then leave, also keep in mind if it's hot outside AK will be hotter with all the plants. Our family usually goes in November and its not bad.

As for PI, I am also 29 and I try to get there every year, Def try to go Friday or Saturday night, if you can't those nights go Monday or Thursday as cast members get in free and it is pretty decent, not like a Friday or Saturday but its ok I would try to go over to downtown at least at night, I personally don't like just sitting in the room after the parks close.

Welcome disneyINalabama! I'm a Huntsville, Alabamian here chyming in!

I would have to agree with MickeyMac as far as AK goes. I myself (22) have no kids so we usually wake up early knock out KS, eat breakfast at Tusker House, head over to Dinosaur and Primeval Whirl. Then by noon we are ready to head over to MGM.

I would recommend going just to say you did. You want to get the full affect of WDW don't you?

We were at AK in June 2003 with 2 grandsons and it was miserably hot. We enjoyed the rides and shows but it was just way too hot for me! The one thing we didn't do in June - because of the heat - was stay around for the 4:00 parade.

Then DH & I went back in early Dec 2003 and loved AK. We loved just walking around taking in the scenery. And we stayed for the parade. It was great. I love all the Disney parades but this one was my favorite of all.

The thing I wonder about is why they have the parade so late in the afternoon when it's so hot. Maybe because of the showtimes for Lion King? Maybe to get people to stay at the park? I just think it would be better to have the parade earlier in the day. JMHO
