Backpacks, (sml,lrg) vs. Tote Bags?

Aloha Everyone!

My DH and I are having a hard time deciding if we should take a Backpack (sml, med, or lrg) or a Tote Bag.

And is it okay if we take it on the ride with us? Where will we put it? Will they leave it somewhere for us?

Mahalo!

I had a diaper bag type of bag - it was sort of mediumish in size & brought it on everything. If I didn't need to haul around as much "kid" stuff - I'd use my small backpack that I normally use.

Hope that helps! No matter what you use - you can bring it on allt he rides with you.

Aloha Cheryl!
Thanks for the reply!
What about security? Do they check before each ride? Or just when you enter the parks?

BTW, the diaper bag idea was great! The one I had for my son was very comfortable on the shoulders!

It is so awkward to carry anything. I worry about losing it. But it is inevitable that it is needed for something. I preferred a tote bag when my daughter was younger. I am not comfortable with backpacks because I have to take it off most places I sit since I cannot lean back with a back pack. A tote maneuvers easier for me. That is just my preference. My husband has a fanny pack that is large which carries a camera. That helps alot! And my daughter takes her fanny pack. She takes a game boy with her. There are a few times that in the long lines, she has played it and it really helped deal with the long line. ANd I take a large, sturdy purse or tote. All I really take extra now is a camera. My husband handles the digital camera.

You just have to have in checked at security on your way into the park. It takes a minute - they are really quick and not exactly thorough!

I took a backpack the last time we went. I saw one place some really cute ...I don't know what you call them, but similar to back pack but not so large. When we rode rides, I just stuck it between my feet, hooked the shoulder strap around my leg so it didn't fly off. We had it crammed full though. I ended up with my camcorder in it, snacks for dd during the day, the regular camera.

I'll warn you though, if you go to AK, you have to watch out for Meeko...he likes looking in backpacks and seeing what snacks are in there ;)

I make my husband carry the bag, which is the best solution of all A couple of years ago we purchased a backpack with only one strap (kind of like a shoulder bag), which is adjustable with velcro. You can wear it either in front or back. My husband says its much more comfortable than a regular backpack and you can swing it around easily when you sit down.

We use a medium backpack and just throw it over one sholder. It works great for us. We usually carry a few small snacks, a camera, and rain stuff. My DH and I do not like fanny packs so a backpack is a good fit for us so we free up our hands but still have a place to store stuff.

I have a small sling backpack that really worked well. It was small, and even though I had to take it off during the rides, it didn't bug me at all.

like others, I put the strap aroud my leg.

We use a backpack because it is just easier to not have a bag that could bang into my leg and swing off my arm.

That being said, a backpack does make me worry more about pickpockets at the parks. I tend to put any valuables more to the middle of the bag as a result - that way if somebody does try to slip into the bag, they end up with sun lotion or something I am not upset about losing. Then again, we tend to go at relatively non-busy times of year so it is not really a problem for us.

For our camera and quick things, I use a fanny pack. Because I have a 2yo and need to carry diapers and a change of clothes, we still need a backpack.

Yes security checks things. And on the rides, I just put it by my legs.

I have a backpack that I can also drag behind me. Sometimes I like to do that.

I have done it all .. diaper bag, backpack, and tote bag .. at the end of the day it all weighs a ton *grin* One thing that makes it easier for me.. I have one of those soft coolers, it has lots of pockets and zippers .. I can put the camera's and batteries and tapes, room keys/ park passes and money all in it.

If you have children, sometimes carrrying around a bag is unavoidable, but to me, the least you have to carry around... the better.

I prefer to travel with a backpack and a fannypack. I keep my valuables close to me in the fannypack. The backpack works great for snacks, sunscreen,....and the PassPorter:D

I use a diaper bag/backpack. The one I have is black leather from Gap. It is a backpack with many pockets plus it has a strap that can be used alone so you don't have to carry it as a backpack.
