Pal Mickey
I'm sure this has been covered in the forums, but I'm sure I missed it. I'd appreciate some information about the "Pal Mickey" program. I believe that's what it's called. You can take it to the parks with you, & it is inter-active. We are going in May, & might want to use one of these.
Thanks ahead of time for any help I can get!

We rented one on our last trip for a day, and that worked really well (despite the mishap of the return, and being charged the deposit again instead of getting a credit). Personally, I think it isn't worth the money, but others just love it. I am glad we rented it, costs us $8 total, once we figured out the deposit fiasco.
How it works: Mickey is about 8 inches tall, and looks just like a stuffed Mickey. It has a clip, and you need to attach it somewhere near your ear or someplace that you can feel it vibrate. As you walk through the parks, it detects messages, and passes them on to you. We walked down main street the morning we had it, and it immediately told us that there was no line at Buzz Lightyear or Splash Mountain (both were correct). It also tells jokes, interesting things about rides and attractions, warns about parades, etc. I would suggest renting one from the gift shop in your resort, and if you like it, they will apply the rental amount to your purchase of a new one (or just don't return the one you rented, and they will keep your deposit).

AWWWWW What a cute picture.
DH and I bought a pal mickey on our last trip and we just loved having him around. It was really neat having him tell you different stuff about the park you were in and like MICKEY said pal mickey would tell you that there were no lines at certain ride and that the parade was going to start etc. If your not sure then rent one and see if you like it and if you do then buy one and if not then you can just return him.

How much does the Pal Mickey cost if you decide to purchase it? I think the line notifications would be really helpful.

exactly $60.00!
We bought him and I don't regret it. It was difficult to part with the $60 but we will use him next time. So if you plan to visit again you might think about buying him. He will entertain you on the ride home and make you wish you were back in WDW

Pal Mickey is lots of fun and can come in handy for even the most experienced park goers. It's a pretty neat piece of technology and has been so popular that you'll soon be seeing Pal Minnie as well.

We bought Pal Mickey when we were there last time and it kept my DS occupied in the stroller the whole time. He was either telling jokes or tips almost the whole time we were there. :)

My father bought one for my daughter on the last trip, and it took some tears to get it out of Poppy's hands when he checked it out just after lunch.
Besides the really lame jokes, every time he "buzzed", 6 adults and 1 child came to a dead stop to find out why. My favourite comment, though, was when we were going to Test Track for a second go of the day, he buzzed. Instinctively, I pressed his hand even though I expected to hear the Test Track spiel. Instead, Mickey said "Gee Pal, decided to go back for another spin on Test Track. I really like going fast too." or something along those lines. Now I'm in the business of working with similar technology (logistics and supply chain) where we use RF technology, but this blew me away. I'm guessing that Mickey also has an RFID (Radio Frequency ID) tag with Read/Write. Now that was cool...Yes, $60 is a lot of money, but hold off on a couple of t-shirts and trinkets, and it's a nice pay-off.

Hi Mumsy,
Had the same question about a month ago. Got so many great replies. Go to thread "Pal Mickey is he worth it?" on page 3 under Theme Parks. Still have not decided if we are going to get him yet?! Will see if DS is interested when we get there. Good Luck! Kim

If you go to WDW frequently, then IMO it is worth it! We bought and used him last April, then I sent him with my brother and his family last October, and now we will be taking him again next month! I am anxioux to see if he says different stuff than he did last year. To be honest, he usually is hooked on me instead of my DS. :laugh I just love the little fella!! :)

Each of our kids wanted one, so we paid $30 for each and they paid $30 toward theirs.
Here is my DD when she first got hers....she was so excited! He is really fun...after about 4 days, I ended up carrying it and the 3 kids took turns with the other one. He teaches you alot of different things, esp in World Showcase. He tells jokes and plays games even at home!

I got my pal mickey last september when it was only about $50. I absolutely love him! He only got slightly annoying when you walk through the oasis at the Animal Kingdom. He tells you about everything in there! He is now sitting on my Mickey bookshelf waiting for my next trip to Disney World. I wish he worked in Disneyland since I'm going there in October.

We too purchased him and LOVE him! I'm glad I bought mine because DD kept dropping him. He is very sturdy! She dropped him at least 5 times a day and it didn't break him. She LOVED him, he is in alot of our pics. Check my trip report for those!

Our first Pal Mickey bit the dust for no apparent reason after about 3 hours. It took us a total of 5 minutes to get him replaced.
The second one is still going strong... And the Oasis at AK, well, I had to run back to the front gate to meet up with the family. Pal Mickey was clipped to my belt. You'd have sworn he was epileptic the way he shook as I passed the huge number of RF antennae there.
