lol I am just a tad south of Texarkana and one of the rumors of a Disney park in Texas has them putting it in 15 miles north of me. Oh I doubt we will get a disney park in the next .. mmmm 20 years ..but I dream of it!!

Having been to Texarkana MANY times (they had a plant there that the company I work for owned, and I supported it), I can do the 6 hour drive. It's not bad. That would be a great place, too! The are is pretty, and it's not too bad as far as the humidity is concerned--it's about the same as here in Oklahoma. I could do that!

Thanks for the info!

Will always dream of a Disney theme park here.... :)

Downtown Disney

I now have my proposal for Downtown Disney at my proposed Disney theme park resort. So far, DD has 38 establishments; 8 more than Disneyland's Downtown Disney in Anaheim and 18 less than WDW's DD. The layout will be similar to Disneyland's DD, but a bit larger, and located on a central hub between the three parks; unlike WDW's Downtown Disney, which seems quite out of the way!

Here is a list of my shops, restaurants, and entertainment for Downtown Disney:

DOWNTOWN DISNEY MARKETPLACE

Food & Restaurants:
1.) Alfredo's of Rome (L'Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante)
2.) Baskin-Robbins
3.) Chef Mickey's: Similar to Chef Mickey's at WDW (Hong Kong will get a Chef Mickey's when it opens next year), this restaurant offers characters meals at Breakfast and Dinner. Guests are joined at both meals by Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Chip & Dale.

4.) Cinnamon Bay Bakery (a full-service bakery and café specializing in cinnamon rolls)
5.) Fulton's Crab House
6.) Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop
7.) Marceline's Confectionery
8.) McDonald's
9.) Wetzel's Pretzels
10.) Wolfgang Puck Café

Shopping:
1.) The Art of Disney
2.) Barnes and Noble Bookseller Megastore
3.) Basin (selling candles, soaps, and bath crystals; just to name a few items)
4.) Disney at Home
5.) Disney's Days of Christmas
6.) Illuminations
7.) LEGO Imagination Center
8.) Liquid Planet (store selling beachwear and accessories)
9.) Marketplace House of Magic (a magic shop, which also offers demonstrations for the customers)
10.) Once Upon a Toy
11.) Silver & Gold Gallery
12.) Team Mickey's Athletic Club
13.) World of Disney

DOWNTOWN DISNEY PARADISE PLAZA

Similar to Paradise Plaza at Disneyland Anaheim; this is primarily Downtown Disney's entertainment district, with a few shops and restaurants.

Food/Restaurants/Entertainment:
1.) AMC Theaters 24
2.) Big Easy Jazz Kitchen
3.) ¡Bongos Y Arriba! Latino Cafe: Jointly owned by Gloria Estefan and the management of Disneyland's ¡Y Arriba! ¡Y Arriba!, ¡Bongos Y Arriba! combines the best features of the two dinner clubs, and offers a global scope of Hispanic food and music from various Latin American countries!

4.) Cirque Du Soleil
5.) DisneyQuest
6.) ESPN Zone
7.) House of Blues
8.) Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament
9.) Planet Hollywood (with adjacent Planet Hollywood: On Location shop)
10.) Rainforest Café

Shopping:
1.) Celebrity Eyeworks Studio
2.) DTV
3.) Hoypoloi
4.) Starabilias
5.) Virgin Megastore (selling a wide variety of music, videos, and DVD's)

In addition, there is a monorail stop between Downtown Disney Marketplace and Paradise Plaza; as the monorail is also connected to the two theme parks and all hotels.

If anyone has questions, comments, and/or suggestions, please feel free to post! :)

Re: My proposal for a new Disney theme park resort

I wonder if it really is feasable to place a Disney Park in Texas. Here in San Antonio, the Six Flags and Sea World are closed Nov - Feb and only open on weekends during the fall. The winters arn't bad here - no snow - but it still gets cool here. I don't know if it would be worth the expense or not. I would hope they do their research and not open something up that will lose them money.

I remebered that-- Disney's America. This was around 1993, IIRC.

No clue about its location, hopefully, wherever Disney builds its next park! I designed this as a U.S. park, due to familiarity with the culture, and since it would be nice to have another Disney theme park nearby. Possible locations if/when Disney ever actually builds a 3rd U.S. park would be somewhere in the Central U.S. (perhaps in an area with a warm climate) or possibly even Hawaii!

But then again, who knows!

Re: Disney Studios: Rides and Attractions

I made a few revisions to my list of rides and attractions for Disney Studios as of opening day. Disney Studios will now consist of four soundstages (with room for expansion if/when the need for more soundstages ever comes up), plus two addition studios in a building together designed specifically for television production called Disney Channel Studios. In addition, Disney Studios will include a backlot, complete with Residential Street (similar to the now-defunct Disney-MGM attraction) and Catastrophe Canyon, an animation studio, as well as the Earfell Tower-- which will be an actual working water tower for the studio and park, unclike Disney-MGM's oversided prop! Once again Disney Studios will open around the same time as the Magic Kingdom, or shortly afterward, and this is the lineup of rides and attractions for opening day. Here is what I now have:

Rides and attractions marked with a (FP) will use the FastPass Service.

1.) Cinemagic Special Effects Stage (FP): This is a live stage show focusing on special effects for TV and motion pictures; which also includes audience participation in a number of segments!

2.) Disney Sound Studio: At The Disney Sound Studio, guests add sound effects to various Disney cartoons! This is an almost completely hand-on attraction, unlike the Sounds Dangerous show with Drew Carey which currently runs at Disney-MGM.

3.) The Great Movie Ride: Although similar to the Great Movie Ride at Disney-MGM, this ride will have primarily different scenes from its Disney-MGM counterpart. Since I have never been to WDW (but I'm currently in the process of planning a trip!), and therefore, never rode GMR, I'll have to go by what I have seen listed in Birnbaum's Official Guide. So far, the only movie scenes I know of which would remain the same are the Singing In the Rain and Wizard of Oz scenes, since those were both landmark motion pictures, and that The Wizard of Oz is a favorite anomg children; whom Disney's theme parks are primarily geared to! Not sure about the others, however, I will also include Mary Poppins on my GMR, but usuing a different scene. WDW's GMR uses the Chim Chim Cher-ee scene, whereas mine will use the Supercalafragilisticexpialidocious song and dance segment from Mary Poppins.

4.) The Great Muppet Movie Ride: This is basically a spoof of the Great Movie Ride; where the Muppets give guests their takes on various classic motion pictures; such as Frankenstein, The Wizard of Oz, and Peter Pan, just to name a few; along with an original entitled Pigs In Space: The Movie. Also, about halfway through the ride, we'll re-create the HILARIOUS scene from The Muppet Movie where the film jams and breaks halfway through the movie! In this scene, Kermit asks what happened, and The Swedish Chef (who is the projectionist) responds, with film wrapped all over him! Here is a sound byte of this scene:

http://users.ev1.net/~russ3/WavFiles/chef.wav

The Great Muppet Movie Ride was in fact planned for Disney-MGM, but was put off due to Jim Henson's death in 1990.

5.) Hyperion Theater: This is a large theater designed much like a movie palace-type cinema from the Golden Era of Hollywood. Hyperion Theater presents a multi-character show (using characters from various Disney cartoons together), similar (but not exactly!) to the show currently running on The Disney Cruise Line-- especially since I have heard a lot of good things about that show!

6.) Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular (FP): I know Disney-MGM has this, but I decided to include Indy since I think that this is one of their very best shows!

7.) Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision 3-D (FP)

8.) Lights, Motors, Action! (FP): This show, more than likely, will have a number of differences from Disney-MGM's and the Walt Disney Studios (Paris) show. But then, no one has seen Disney-MGM's motor stunt show yet, who know. Otherwise, this should be basically the same show, more or less.

9.) The Magic of Disney Animaton: This is an actual working animation studio, which produces and demonstrates for guests 3 different types of animation!:
a.) Cel Animation
b.) 3-D Computer Animation
c.) Clay Animation

In addition, The Magic of Disney Animation features an interactive area where guests can learn a few tricks of the trade! IIRC, the animation studio at Walt Disney Studios at Disneyland Paris has an interactive area like this one.

10.) Monsters, Inc. dark ride

11.) Playhouse Disney: Live on Stage!

12.) Star Tours
: (FP)

13.) Studio Tour: Behind the Scenes

14.) That's Entertainment! Hollywood Gallery
: This is similar to The Disney Gallery in this theme park resort's Magic Kingdom and the Main Street Gallery and Town Square Exposition Hall in Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom; but focuses on Hollywood and the entertainment industry in general. That's Entertainment! Hollywood Gallery includes various Hollywood-related exhibits, artifacts, and memorabilia.

15.) Tron: The Ride (FP): This ride is based on the 1982 motion picture Tron, which will be designed as a dark ride with a few interactive elements much like Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and the early 1980's Tron arcade game, which was also based on the movie.

16.) Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (FP)

17.) Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Play It! (FP)

PARADE: Disney Studios will feature a Hollywood-themed parade similar to the Lights, Camera, Action! parade at Walt Disney Studios Paris. Like the WDS parade, this parade will use actual parade floats instead of the antique cars used in Disney-MGM's parade. One of the most memorable floats from the WDS Paris parade which will also be used here is a giant movie projector float with Tinker Bell sitting in front of the projector's lens!

In addition, the parade at Disney Studios will include Hollywood-themed songs/show tunes such as Hooray For Hollywood, There's No Business Like Show Business, We're In the Money, You Ought to Be in Pictures, and That's Entertainment!, just to name a few!

Last but certainly not least, Disney Studios runs the Sorcery In the Sky fireworks show every night.

I also have here a list of possible lands/streets for Disney Studios:

1.) Animation Courtyard
2.) The Backlot
3.) Hollywood Boulevard
4.) Muppets Courtyard (which includes The Great Muppet Movie Ride and Muppet*Vision 3-D)
5.) New York Street
6.) Production Courtyard
7.) Sunset Boulevard

As for the park's layout, I may get started on my maps soon, but haven't come up with anything yet. One thing I wanted to do was make my Disney Studios theme park easier to navigate than Disney-MGM or Walt Disney Studios, and with fewer dead ends in the park's layout. So far, I am considering having the studios on the left-hand side of the park instead of the right where Disney-MGM placed theirs, to make it different. Also, I was considering placing the backlot/Residential Street/Catastrophe Canyonin the back behing the studios on the left, and placing Lights, Motors, Action! in the back-- but on the right side, parallel with Catastrophe Canyon. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions concerning the layout of my Disney Studios park, please post them here! All other questions, comments, and/or suggestions are welcome too.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Doesn't Texas have a lot of tornadoes? I do know much of Texas is in the infamous "Tornado Alley". Not sure if San Antonio is in Tornado Alley or not. That might be a factor in determining the suitablity for a theme park-- if there are a lot of tornadoes in the area, my park could be flattened in just a matter of seconds!

But then, I've never been to Texas, so how would I know!

Re: My proposal for a new Disney theme park resort

i think the central part of the US does need something other than twisters and floods. they need something like a disney theme park. people in the central part of the US wouldn't have to travel all the way to florida or california if there's a disney park in their own back yard.

Yes, I know that, but if there are too many twisters, this park would be destroyed in a matter of seconds. Has Six Flags in San Antonio ever had tornado damage before? Also, is San Antonio a bad area for tornadic activity?
It's different in Anaheim and Orlando, because tornadoes are rare in those areas.

Re: My proposal for a new Disney theme park resort

San Antonio has never had any big tornadoes that I know of .... I've lived about 90 minutes away from SA for 20 years. I would have to say I'm a bit partial to the Austin Area for a theme park (hint hint!!) Austin is begging for something like this! SA has Six Flags/Fiesta Texas, SeaWorld, and the Riverwalk....people can already stay a week in San Antonio and not see everything because there is so much to do. IMO you can stay 2 nights in Austin and be done!!! Bring it on to Central Texas!!!

The climate is perfect (except this year for some reason...rain rain rain ) It doesn't get any hotter here than it does in Orlando, yet the humidity is not as bad and typically there is seldom a rain storm in the summer afternoons. It may get a bit cool in the winter though....but since the parks close early (7ish) in the winter, shouldn't be a problem.
