Mission Space seating question

I have heard that there are different roles played by each of the four people in Mission Space. Which seat is which role? In other words, if I enter the capsule first, what role will I have, if I enter the capsule second, what role will I have, and so on?

My daughter who is 6 wanted to know if she did something wrong what will happen. I quickly said, "If you push the wrong button, we will all blow up!!" I realised pretty quick that she would take me literally, so I said, "I'm just kidding!!" You should have seen the look on her face. I probably won't be able to get her on the ride now!!!

Re: Mission Space seating question

I can't remember which seat is which role.. I can't even remember which roles were included! Engineer? Pilot? Navigator? Captain? Who knows... But rest assured, everyone is seeing the same movie and hering the same audio... First time around, you will be trying to "do your job," but the next time around, you will see that the kids who have been on the ride 10 or 15 times are pressing every button and flipping every switch randomly as fast as their fingers will go! The ride remains the same! The buttons mean nothing.
That said, the ride is so cool, so intense, you won't care about anything but what is on the screen and how your body feels... Blasting off feels exactly like you had always hoped it would!!! Tell your little one not to worry! I didn't press a single button at the right time, and yet we still made it to our PS at Biergarten on time!

Rlander... I think you know this is my favorite ride, but I did not comment the positions to memory... however, nothing happens if you don't do your job... I think it would be cool if something did happen, but it is an awesome ride and I hope you did not scare your 6 year old off... The warnings are a bit rediculous IMHO, they may scare her...

Re: Mission Space seating question

The roles are engineer, pilot, navigator, and captain. They are on the floor before you get into capsule, so you can pick what you want to be and line up accordingly before you enter the capsule. Allearsnet.com has a listing of some of the rides and what they are, etc. You can go there and find out more info about M:S. I can tell that nothing happens if you press the button at the wrong time, because my DD pressed the button as soon as it lit up and did not wait for the mission people to tell her when to press it. She did this EVERY time, and nothing happened. Our ride continued just as scripted. Hope this helps.

Pilot=Spot 1
Navigator=Spot 2
Commander=Spot 3
Engineer=Spot 4

I got to be Commander, and I did a good job at it too LOL I also acted as "Engineer" since the 4th person backed out at the last second due to being claustriphobic. It is VERY hard to push the person's buttons next to you with all that g-force pressing against you, but I did that job well too!

Re: Mission Space seating question

Thanks for the quick answers!! I won't tell my kids about the "fake" buttons. I don't want to ruin the magic for them. But I will reiterate to my 6 year old that we will NOT blow up if she presses the wrong button.

Re: Mission Space seating question

Everyone is correct: The buttons, as well as the joystick in front of you, don't control anything. Even pushing the joystick in the opposite direction that you're told has no effect on the ride. The only thing that happens if a button isn't pushed at the correct time is that the capsule's computer voice announces "computer override" and the appropriate action is carried out anyway.

Come on Tom!!! I have been sitting at the edge of my waiting seat for Epsiode 4. I will explode with anticipation if I have to wait until Episode 7.

Give us a little taste of your humor about M:S....Please....

Re: Mission Space seating question

Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention that is kinda hard to push any button on that ride anyway. You are kinda pinned into the seat with your face plastered into your skull, but I guess you got that from everything else you've seen and heard, right.

There were airsick bags!!! REALLY!!! I didn't know that. Of course, I didn't need them, but I didn't know that. I go in for those kind of rides that require a tough constitution. I thought it was wicked and totally awesome and can't wait to do it again. my DD said "so that's what it's like to go into space, no wonder all the astronauts want to do it. It was cool! and grandma would have thrown up!!" and she was NOT kidding.

Good job Park Hopper. I was gonna mention that about the "computer override." I thought that was pretty cool. Disney really covered their bases. They knew there would be people who didn't play nice and wouldn't push their buttons right.

Re: Mission Space seating question

Just a thought, you might want to try the ride without the small children first to get a feel. My children were pretty adventurous when they were that young, yet I think it might have been a bit too much for them. Thats just my opinion. If the six year old gets to shaken up you may have a hard time getting her on anything else.Tina
