a little nervous about Mission Space
Hi there ... Have a question for those who've been on Mission Space. It is an attraction that I WILL go on, but I have to say I'm a little nervous about it. Does EVERYONE feel nauseous after riding it? I'm not prone to motion sickness, but from what I heard everyone leaves feeling a little queazy. Is this true? Also do they have a parent swap set up there? We'll be with a 4 yr old so DH and I will have to ride seperately. Please calm my fears!!

Re: a little nervous about Mission Space
First, I wish I was able to go to WDW in just a few days too!!!
My DH and 5 yr old DD went on the ride last October. I had never seen either one of them "queasy" until Mission Space. In fact, the two will go on the tea-cup type rides and spin so fast that you can't move your head! Also, my DD was too short to reach the controls for her "part" in the mission so they were "out of control". I don't think she realized this or not and maybe that was why my DH was sick after. I get sick so easy that I have a hard time swinging on a swing, so I can't give you first hand knowledge. I had read a review when the ride initially opened that said most people either loved or hated Mission Space. Whatever you decide, you will have a GREAT time. I am soooooo jealous! Have fun! |

Re: a little nervous about Mission Space
My DD and I both rode Mission Space and if you follow the direction and keep your head straight, you shouldn't get sick. I did not get nauseous in the least, but still didn't care for the attraction. I am not one for being closed into anything and you are closed in. I also get this feeling, but not nearly as bad, on Star Tours when they shut the door to the ride. My DD, however, loved it and went on again right after without me. If you aren't claustrophobic or prone to motion sickness, you should be fine on this attraction. Just keep you head straight and do not look side to side. My Passporter doesnt' mention a child-swap just the Space Base playground where they can play while one of the parents ride. You could both take a turn on the ride while the other hangs out here and let's the little play in the playground area.

there are bags on the attraction for people who do get sick. They are located near the control areas.

Re: a little nervous about Mission Space
We rode it 6 times during out last trip. I was fine, as was everyone else an every trip, including Minnie, who gets motion sickness on a moving sidewalk. The one time I did feel a bit sick was our last night, and my daughter wanted to ride it back to back. I stalled as long as I could, but after the second ride, I didn't feel great. I was better pretty quickly. I think the thing that got me sick was that as we were getting on, the person getting out of our "car", threw up their macaroni and cheese right on the floor, even though he had a bag in his hand. It took a good 10 minutes to clean up, and we jsut sat there looking at it the whole time.
If you don't worry about what is going on around you, and just look straight forward, you will be fine. It is a fantastic ride, not to be missed. You have to do it once, it is worth it.

Re: a little nervous about Mission Space
We rode it, and my kids went nnuts for it and went over and over. I went only once, and it did give me a little "teacups" feeling. But the HUGE majority of the people were getting off the ride completely fine, and many, many of them were racing right back to get in Fast Pass line to go again...

Re: a little nervous about Mission Space
I went on it on opening day with my DH and 3 DD's(4,8,13). DH loved it, I thought it was just okay. My littleone hated it ,but I think it was because she was too short to properly see the monitor and couldn't follow the storyline. My 8 year old had an asthma attack and had to sit down for awhile after the ride. I didn't feel any spinning. Don't close your eyes and look straight ahead at the monitors. If you close your eyes or turn your head to the side, you will feel the spinning. I'm glad that I went on it, but it won't become one of my favorites.

Re: a little nervous about Mission Space
All this time I've been assuming that getting my DW on M:S was going to be easy.
But if she sees someone toss their cookies, she won't get on it. I had no idea that was so common. I'm still psyched to go. ![]()

Re: a little nervous about Mission Space
I don't usually get sick easily....EXCEPT for spinning motions. I don't do Tilt-A-Whirls and the like, so I was a little concerned about M:S.
The first time, I got off the ride (having thoroughly enjoyed it--so realistic!) with just a slight "airy" feeling in my head, kinda like I'd stayed up all night and hadn't gotten any sleep. Nothing too bad. However, we decided to go on it a second time in a row, because there was no wait. After the second time, I literally (no kidding) walked off the ride and into a wall! LOL! So I guess it depends on your tolerance level. If you're worried about getting sick even once, don't get cocky like I did and do it twice in a row!

Re: a little nervous about Mission Space
I agree, for first time riders follow the instructions they give you about not closing your eyes and keep looking straight ahead. I rode it on our last trip for the first time and had no problems. I'm a bit claustrophobic but the cool air they blow on you helps a lot with any anxious feelings you might have. I felt a little light-headed but it passed after about 10 minutes or so. I'm glad I rode it and I will ride it again, I think I will enjoy it more in the future now that I know what to expect. The liftoff was a little more intense than I expected but it did feel cool to experience what former astronauts say is pretty close to the real thing. All in all I think anyone that doesn't get too anxious should try to ride it at least once.

Re: a little nervous about Mission Space
follow the directs and I dont believe it will bother you. My husband has vertigo and cant even ride Pooh, much less the teacups .. even though he loved it MPM made him feel sick. But on Mission: Space the only thing he felt was excited and thrilled.

Re: a little nervous about Mission Space
We rode it last December. My DH can't even ride the merry-go-round but did okay on M:S. What ever you decide just make sure you don't close your eyes. The lift off is the worst part then it is really neat!

Re: a little nervous about Mission Space
My daughter and I rode it 3 times in 3 hours, the last 2 back to back. I loved the first ride...no problems. I wasn't thrilled about the last two. I never thought I was going to vomit, but I did need some air.
IMO, the only thing different between the 1st and 2nd rides was that I ate. I'll only do M:S on an empty stomach in the future... Bruce |
